4 dead, 48 injured as tornado hits Boy Scout camp

Postby Entilzha » Thu Jun 12, 2008 12:04 pm

I saw it on CNN and found the article in Yahoo http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/severe_weather. No kid should experience something like that.

My goodness, that's terrible. Terrible enough for adults, but for young kids it's even worse somehow - they were just supposed to be having fun and earning new badges or whatever else they do at Boy Scout camp. :(

I know it's unreasonable and perhaps unscoutly of me (I was a scout), but I want to throttle the guy who talked so complacently about being prepared.

Nobody can be prepared for something like that. Not at the age of 13 or 14 in the middle of nowhere. And especially not if none of the adults carried a damned weather radio and made sure you were near real shelter, which perhaps was not available anyway.

And I can guarantee none of those parents who lost their son was prepared either.

Sounds like the ones that died were inside a structure which collapsed on them. In an article I read one of the rescuers said basically, "They were indoors, on their knees under the tables when we found them under the rubble. They did everything they were supposed to do, but they never had a chance." :(

Tragic. Seems like the camp lodge with a stone fireplace would have been the safest place to be. That's where I would have gone if I knew a tornado was coming. :?

I think it just hits me where I live, having a thirteen-year-old.

Yes! It's so!
Also here two young lifes have been mowed by the fury of the water!
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.
