So very cute. I want a dog! If I tell my husband I want a dog, he might go as far as consenting to another house rabbit. Gotta work on my spousal manipulation skills. They come in right handy at times.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

The breeder said four pounds max unless we overfeed him and make him fat. He's just over two pounds now.

Yep. He barked for the first time a couple of days ago. Even his bark is cute. I'm not too thrilled that he now has a favorite spot on the persian rug where he likes to pee, though. :?

Would a puppy pad help?

Oh, I have terrible memories of puppy pads. I tried them when my boys were puppies, and on several occasions they tore them to shreads after they used them. What a nightmare clean up that was! The person who recommended them to me thought they were the greatest - me, not so much.

What finally worked for me was just consistently taking them out, especially right after they eat, and then praising and giving them treats after they went "potty." Even now after 6 years they still want to go out as soon as they finish eating and sit for a treat when they come in.

Really? Oh, wow. My cat Mr. Boo learned to use them when arthritis got the best of him and stepping over the lip into a litter box was too much of a project. He never scratched them up, and that's what cats normally do when they're done.

He's got puppy pads in his crate and under his food dish and we take him outside several times a day, but the problem seems to be when we let him play in the living room. Most of the floor is brick, but does he pee on the brick? Of course not. ;-)

Right on. I was thinking that maybe you could put a puppy pad on his spot on the rug and he'd go on that instead of wrecking the rug.

Mama says putting Assylum in a crate for a bit may help. If you let him out to do his business and put him in for a bit it might help.

Hmmm. I suppose that might work in the short run, but I'd rather train him NOT to go in that spot. It's getting better. We played in the living room for a quarter of an hour yesterday and every time he started sniffing at the spot I distracted him with a squeaky toy. No piddle. 8)

And the poor baby's in his crate entirely too much for my tastes anyway. My daughter's in love with the dog, but like a typical teenager she thinks she can just put him away when she's not using him. She's been sleeping in until noon every day this week during the Mardi Gras break. The poor dog doesn't get out before then unless I go upstairs into no man's land and fetch him. Speaking of which...

You know about those enzymes you can spray on the carpet to digest away the traces, right? That also helps keep him from going back to 'his' spot.
