Re: Avatars
Further adventures in procrastination... I mean, Photoshopping... *cough*
With this set I was trying to convey that TnT are thinking about each other, although I'm not sure if I achieved that:
(A keen eye will note that both of the background, translucent, "memory" pics are from Trip's visit to T'Pol's home.)
Help yourself!
*drags self off to read for class*

Re: Avatars
Gosh, I wish I had the time, talent, and technical know-how to make stuff like this. I had photoshop elements on my old computer, but that was a friend's program so I couldn't move it to the new one. I downloaded Gimp to the new machine, but I don't have the first idea how to work it. My first experience with it was less than stellar.
At any rate, stunning work, JzK and Alelou!

Re: Avatars
GIMP'S online manual is pretty good. I've certainly accessed the part "What to do if you get stuck" often enough.

Re: Avatars
That sounds right up my alley. I think I just need to sit down when I really have time to screw with it...and I was rushing a bit when I was working with it before, and getting frustrated because I could've done what I wanted to do in like three seconds with Photoshop Elements.

Re: Avatars
Well, frankly, usually it makes sense to stick with the simpler program. Most of the time to make avatars I just use Microsoft Office Picture Manager and Paint, which are right there pre-installed in Windows Photo Gallery. I still use them to finish up stuff I start in GIMP (stuff like putting in type, resizing and compressing for the web). This just proves what an amateur I am, but whatever. It wasn't that long ago I didn't have a clue what an avatar even WAS.

Hmmm, I'm starting to see the virtues of asking my friend if she can find what she did with her Photoshop Elements cd again...

Re: Avatars
If your Windows is genuine, you could probably just got to the Microsoft site and download those programs I mentioned for free. They came with the operating system. I had to start using them because Vista wouldn't run my Casio camera software properly, but I actually like Windows Photo Gallery a lot better than the Casio program.

Re: Avatars
There is much to be said for trial and error.
Re: Avatars
I'll give the gimp thing a shot, I guess. I was just gettin' mad that time because I had a photo that was too dark and it would've been dirt simple to lighten up in Photoshop Elements, but the tool didn't work the same in Gimp so no matter what I got, it sucked.

Surely you did, with this one!
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.
But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

I found that too until I got into some dialogue box that broke things up for color/brightness/contrast/hue/saturation and suddenly it was working the way I needed it to. Sometimes right-clicking in GIMP will get you dialogue boxes that make a lot more sense than just trying to go at stuff with the tools.
Of course my biggest hurdle was simply realizing I had a floating selection I had to anchor down before ANY tool would work. And I've learned to always leave the layer dialogue open or I lose track of where I am.

Re: Avatars
OK, I've been mucking around with my website and in the process I uploaded some avatars I had previously neglected to add. Then I changed stuff around a bit, and created an additional avatar page since the first one was getting pretty large and took its time to load.
There are also a lot of avatars that aren't of Jolene or T'Pol, and the non-Trek ones have their own page.
Anyway, if you want to check them out here they are:
Jolene/T'Pol and ENT avatars
Continued, with other Trek avatars
Non-Trek avatars, like Farscape, Buffy etc.

She's got an awfully nice bum!

These are great!! I had a lot of fun looking through them. Besides the Enterprise ones, I especially enjoyed the Buffy avatars, and the "Vote Palpatine" banners.
