Like anyone would close their eyes and look so content with that thing glaring at them. *So says the person who's seen neither movie, but is thinking that Jake Gyllenhall (sp?) looks pretty darn good in a cowboy hat.*

Okay, who wants to have a car with a hydraulic roof like that? This could revive the fortunes of Detroit!

L  L, maybe the casual people on the street were actors waiting around for the cameras and director to show up?

Are you kidding? There are neighborhoods in Detroit where the cars already look like that! For free!

Regular New Yorkers? Well then, I am glad I had the gumption to leave the place after being born there and living my first six months there.

Oh, they're not that bad. They're just used to seeing the most bizarre things -- and if they were local to that neighborhood they probably knew there was a show filming. If someone was IN that car screaming, someone would do something.

Probably. :?

^ When I was active in the Law & Order fandom, one of the members of a forum I belonged to was from New York and he said they shot in his neighborhood all the time. Sometimes that show, sometimes others. I think that your conclusion that theyr'e just used to seeing that kind of stuff all the time is probably right. You do the same thing somewhere out in B.F.E., then people are gonna gawk.

It's starting to get a little more common around here, too. Last year Sigourney Weaver was here for several weeks shooting a movie, and George Clooney was just here for a month. The trailers and crews around Metro Detroit are starting to get less and less conspicuous...although it was especially frustrating when Sigourney Weaver's movie was filming and they were taking up the ENTIRE municipal parking lot near the courthouse...and I was trying to pay a parking ticket before work!!! :bitch:

I haven't spotted any actual stars myself, though, but it's fairly common to see Kid Rock at a club, and someone I know used to see Renee Zellwegger when she got her nails done because she was here a lot when she was dating Jack White from the White Stripes. Me? I'd be just dumb enough to walk past someone like George Clooney and just think to myself, "Wow, that guy looks a lot like George Clooney!" and not give it a second thought.

When I came to New York City in about 1985 or 1986 to visit the man who is now my husband, I was shocked as we toured the town when we came across a bum lying across the sidewalk. My husband stopped and another woman coming the other way stopped. They both lifted their sunglasses (everyone wore dark sunglasses with their black clothes) and peered down: "Is he dead?" "I don't know." We all stare until we notice some breathing. "Oh, he's not dead." They put their sunglasses back on, step over him, and continue down the street.

CX That Brokeback Mountain/Dark Knight thing is truely disturbing. !!!!

I love the comments about New Yorkers:

Alelou's "proabably" :? to prospective aid.

JT's stepping over the sleeping guy 8) .

Well, I suppose Chicago and Milwaukee are getting there too, especially with the today's economic outlook and violence upturn. The yearly body count (murder) in Milwaukee is already up to 10.

New York has a very, very low murder rate for the population it has. It's much friendlier and more civilized than people give it credit for. New Yorkers seem tough, but they aren't really mean and especially after 9/11 they were total sweethearts.

But it certainly does have enough weirdoes and people who babble to themselves and aggressive panhandlers that they learn to be cautious about interacting with strangers... there's nothing quite like that lovely strained conversation you get trapped in with some guy who clearly hasn't been taking his meds while you wait for the taxi your company said is coming to the front of the building, while in fact it's waiting at the back.

Oh yeah, that was fun.
