Not necessarily in the Trek Community. Among TPTB maybe. But you have to expect that from Hollywood generally. The Trek community represents a fair cross-section of the population at large, who also include people who either include vets or have relatives in the military.

Now, there may very well be a pervasive attitude that government = bad. You might be able to make a case for that...

No, in the Trek community. Every time a topic about how TPTB should hire a military advisor comes up or anything about how Starfleet is a military comes up, there's always a bunch of people who have to start whining and ranting about how Starfleet isn't a military, and in their reasonings as to why, they see the military as this evil warmongering force that's sole purpose is just to kill people, forgetting entirely about the humanitarian missions we engage in all the time. Who was there after that huge tsunami? The US Navy, Marines, and Air Force, that's who.

Why can't Starfleet just be itself? Why does it have to be the US Navy, Marines or Air Force?
Frankly, one of the best things about Star Trek is that it's not the real world. IMO

It is itself, but it's still a military.

The purpose of a military is to protect the homeland. If part of Starfleet's job is to protect the homeland, then they are a military.

Whine: college books are too damned expensive. It's a bigger racket than car insurance. :bitch:

They're still too damned expensive. And, of course, the college will inevitably change the book next semester, thus meaning I can't sell the one I have back for peanuts. Grrrrrr...

Yes indeed. And it only gets worse, I might add. For Modern Britain and Empire I must have 15 books. There are another 2 recommended that I can't afford and would probably not have time to read anyway. I did, however, find on amazon.com's used books that one book was 6 dollars cheaper than the bookstore even with shipping. And I've just sold a couple myself, since I will do everything in my power not to take another depressing class looking at Nazi Germany and don't want those books. These were books the school wouldn't buy back, so I'm salvaging some of the outrageous cost.

The university where I just graduated from had a sign proclaiming that "The value of textbooks is measured in degrees," but to someone shelling out hundreds of dollars that has no money, that can come off as rather smarmy.

On another note, when Rigil mentioned his friend who didn't say what the lawsuit about, I was struck by how different men are. Women would've shared every detail, every morsel of their reaction, and then covered the highlights again for good measure.
