Yay Earth 2!

It's sad that it ran for only one season, but when I found out the reason for the cancellation, I was glad. At least the show's writers/producers cared enough about the show to have it killed rather than turn it into a farce.

And I'm curious about the who played Uli, too!

Why did they cancel it? I just thought it wasn't pulling in the ratings. I started watching back when it first aired, but to be honest I didn't find it all that interesting.

That is happy news. As for what to buy, I don't know exactly, but if you buy used stuff it stretches the money.

What was the reason? What farce?

To be honest, I think Earth 2 had a lot more potential than it delivered on. It was fairly enjoyable, but they should've done a lot more about how the new colony was created. Now they just kept wandering around.

Hey, there's an idea for a new science fiction show. A fairly realistic portrayal of how a human colony on a new planet is founded, grows and all their difficulties. It could even span many years, say a decade each season or something.

E2 was cancelled because the execs at NBC wanted to take season 2 and totally mess up the premise... make it "better". Characters would have been added, characters would have been revamped, and their overall plans were bad. It wasn't cool/sexy enough. It forced people to thing. So they wanted to change it up, kind of like what they did to season 3 SeaQuest (because no one killed that show rather than let it turn into the blah that it became). E2 had okay ratings (and a fairly vocal fan base), so it was slated to continue, but NBC was riding high on their "Friends" success and thought that they could do no wrong.

I remember being really angry about it all until I found out the real reason for cancellation... and then I just got mad at NBC :? Dummies.

Gah! That sounds awful!

I got the DVDs today and just watched the pilot. It was better than I remembered it.

Some online searches told me that the actress who played the young girl died when she was around 20 or so! That's sad! :( And then the episodes on the DVDs are in a strange order, the same strange order as when the show original ran. Luckily I found a proper episode order list.

And I had almost forgotten that it had some pretty hot women too. Jessica Steen, Debrah Farentino, Rebecca Gayheart... I recall having a thing for Jessica Steen back then. She was also on some weird sci-fi show about future soldiers. I think it was one of J. Michael Straczynski's first attempts and it featured some early CGI. And Farentino is now on Eureka. She's aged extremely well...

Don't buy ENT season 2 - Santa has an extra. (Not wishing to be too familiar, but it would be nice to giveit a good home.) :)
