Well now, before yo go knocking bottled water, consider the different kinds. Spring water is much better than, say, Dasani, which is filtered tap water. Has anyone ever tried that Fiji brand? It's insanely expensive. And it seems like a horrible waste of resources, especially when not all people in Fiji have access to clean water. But I got it once because it was the only cold brand the school snack bar had, and it's quite good. I am a bottled water person because our water tastes terrible; at school if any water accumulates it has a yellowish tinge, so I refuse to drink that either.

See the cells? The dotted borders. These borders are only in the design view, to help you see what you're doing. Some of the cells are nested into the outer cells.

The cells are still there, holding my text where I want it, but the borders are set to "0" so they stay invisible.

One way of doing things.

Thank you! This is exactly what I wanted to know.

Still, I don't really see the point with having all those cells, and nested cells, on a webpage. I can understand having a banner head, somwthing at the very bottom and some smaller boxes at the side for links, directories etc. And then just one big box/cell with whatever content you have. Like there is on my website. But a gazillion cells all over the place, and cells within cells... Whatever for? :?

^ FRONTPAGE?? (shudder shudder) :? :wtf: :? :explode: :faint: Gah Frontpage is a nightmare. I never did manage to figure that thing out. :? :? And it adds like tons of junk code and messes up the poor innocent simple code that people type in expecting that it would display it like a browser would but NOPE, like the Frontpage for some reason can't comprehend normal code and does it all WRONG. Frontpage is EVIL. I like Notepad

KTR tables help like align and hold text and objects and backgrounds etc where they're supposed to be it's not just for like "overdesigned" stuff. Sorry I suck at explaining so I shouldn't really get into details :? :? I'm better at typing the code. Not explaining it :?

I think I might add to that - the layout you just described, KTR, can't be done without either using tables or divs.

I live in Cornwall, and our water's really good. (people bottle it and take it back with them from holiday) In the rest of the country (Yorkshire etc) the water tastes like CRAP and you have to filter it just to make the damn stuff drinkable. Blech.

I use Dreamweaver 8 to do initial design (tables and the like) and then use an excellent editor called UEStudio/Ultraedit to add the content and prune the crap that Dreamweaver might've added. That said, Dreamweaver's pretty tidy normally.

well I only put a gazillion to show you.

Usually when I use cells it's to organise things that I want to appear in a certain spot on the page, and I'm having trouble getting it to stay put. A cell can hold the things in their proper relationship, and especially when using a visual editor like Dreamweaver, I often find them a nice, simple way to keep the structure on the page and in my brain.

Your site is done in divs - and OMG - you know what else, nothing overlaps or gets all squished together when you shrink the browser.

So could someone please tell me again: what exactly is wrong with using divs?

I found an interesting joke site, where some mathematicians from Berkeley have created a place that gives you jokes tailored for your sense of humour. You just have to rate how funny the jokes presented are, and then it calculates that and uses it to present you with better jokes as you go along.

Jester 4.0.

That's awesome!

And in light of Elessar's new lifestyle, here is a pretty good 'un:

A radio conversation between a US naval ship and Canadian authorities...

Americans: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.

Canadians: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

Americans: This is the captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

Canadians: No. I say again, you divert YOUR course.

Americans: This is the aircraft carrier USS Lincoln, the second largest ship in the United States' Atlantic Fleet. We are accompanied by three destroyers, three cruisers and numerous support vessels. I demand that you change your course 15 degrees North, that's ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH, or counter-measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this ship.

Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

Gah why do I always miss the "most users ever online". Last time I was at work. Before that I was at work too. But today I was online and for some reason couldn't load TriS at all on IE7 it gave me a "page can't be displayed" and I thought the site was down. Then at like 7pm I tried it on Firefox after like 3 hours of trying it on IE7 and it worked fine (still can't open it on IE7 for some reason. My IE7 is being exceptionally evil lately :? :? :? ). I don't know it's never done that before. I've never had browser related problems with TriS :? :dunno: well but if I knew the site wasn't down I could have been logged in to TriS at 5:08pm and then there would be 15 people.

14! USERs! What was so exciting here this morning, I wonder? I mean, I can understand when there is new fanfic up . . . There will be new fanfic up, BTW. I was one of those 14 users. I was trying to get something posted something for Bookworm--then I had to go to work.
