So if your 13-year-old has been running a fairly respectable fever for 24 hours and has had an intermittent headache but no other symptoms other than aches and chills, when do you start to worry about it? Right now it's at 102 while he's on Advil.

Gah. I hope it's not Lyme Disease, which is pretty common here. We never noticed a tick. And I assume if it was meningitis he'd be a lot sicker and the headache would be a lot more than intermittent.

Yeah, the revolution begins :D

I've discovered today that our town council and our regional government isn't as useless as I thought. Today we have received (via mail) a beautiful and very practical bag to prevent using plastic bags in our shopping. It's a fantastic idea. I mean, we used fabric bags before, but now everybody in our town has one (so no more excuses.)

And talking about something completely different, I think the Football Eurocup and Spain's victory in it has corrupted our youth: I'm hearing children shouting "¡Podemos, España, sí!" ("We can, Spain, yes!" It's part of this year's song for our national team.) I mean, they're saying Spain, in the Basque Country! Oh, I think our town council isn't going to be happy. He,heee... I'm extatic...

Don't get that as wrong, Escriba, but considering that the Spain's victory in the Football Eurocup has happened at the expence of the Italian team - well - from my personal point of view, I can only say: "Every cloud has a silver lining". :D
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

When I lived in England eons ago, a lot of people used their own bags or baskets or string holders -- because the big grocery stores charged for each plastic bag. Same happens at Aldi and other discount European grocery stores here. I don't think people will really change their habits until they have a pocketbook incentive to change them. I have reusable bags but I only remember to take them in about half the time, and that's even with the local grocery crediting me money off for using them. I'm trying to get a routine of always putting them back in the car and taking them into the store, but it's hit or miss. The other day I went into Rite Aid with a bag tucked under my arm and I STILL forgot to use it!

My bags make it back into the car, but I am always saying to my husband while in the checkout line "Jim, go get our bags, we left them in the car".

He is better, thank you. Actually his fever went down so completely even without medication that I canceled his appointment. Then it immediately went back up again, of course, but not to anything I consider ominous.

And now that he's discovered how to work the Thermoscan himself he is keeping me informed minute-by-minute. :)

Things I have learned from Japanese Beetles:

1. The more you kill, the easier it gets. In fact, it gets downright addictive. Once I get started I can't walk past even one, never mind the law of diminishing returns. When it comes to Japanese Beetles I'm a freakin' Xindi Reptilian.
2. Sometimes dropping instinctively isn't too helpful (i.e. when somebody has a bucket of hot soapy water under you).
2. Wear a hat if you're trying to get beetles out of a birch tree that's taller than you are. And check your bra afterwards. No, really. Check it.
