Woah, my first thought was, that's a different hair color! Looks like fun, though. Have you been to the beach yet?

This is something I heard in a documentary, but apparently the Hawaiian hand signal (famous here for the football player Ronaldinho) has its origin in Basque sailors. You see, Hawaiian people do it simply showing it in the air, but if you do it with the thumb pointing your mouth... Yeah, the international sign of "I wan't to drink".

"You do?"
"Yes, miss. Lawyers, miss."

:) Yes, we were LOST (the TV show). We were on the lookout for a tyrannosaurus or maybe a giant polar bear.

Interesting etymology of "hang loose." Thanks Escriba. I learn something new everyday on this board.

I'm back now. I will post some beach pictures later, but it's kind of a waste. The beach looks just like the post cards. :)

Looks a lot like Florida there. Any sandspurs? I hated those things. I want to see beach pictures. :)

Oh man. Hawaii is NOT like Florida. The big island did remind me of the wilder parts of Puerto Rico a bit, but not at all of Florida, and the weather is just so much nicer in Hawaii than in either of those places. It really is paradise ... when it's not spewing lava on you, anyway.
OMG, ANOTHER new chapter! NORTH STAR Chapter 28

They claimed they had no dangerous bugs in Hawaii.

Here is Honolulu from the "Punchbowl," National Cemetary of the Pacific (like Arlington National Cemetary). It's called the Punchbowl because its in the crater of an extinct volcano. Honolulu is the twelfth largest U.S. city! (I took these pictures with my tricorder.) My new phone is so fancy, it's ALMOST a tricorder. :?

That yellow tent is where I rented a board and took my surfing lesson.

A banyan tree or "walking tree" at the beach. See those vines coming down? They root in the ground, thicken and become new tree trunks. This tree grows from the top down! The same tree can spread itself across miles.

Our lovely hotel (right above the nail salon and a "Scruples" night club).

Image

It was a dump, but it was two blocks from the beach and right beside the "International Market" shopping paradise and surrounded by restaurants serving the best Thai, Vietnamese, and Italian food I have ever eaten.

Never been to Hawaii, but your photos make me want to go. :( But there are other places I NEED to go more than Hawaii. Maybe I'll get there sometime, maybe not. :dunno:

Yes, it seems that everyone who comes back from Hawaii immediately starts plotting how they might be able to make it back there again. It's like a Star Trek convention that way ;)
