Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Yup, HI-May! That's the tutorial I use for various friends and relatives who find it challenging.

Of course, Jaime's own relatives in Puerto Rico tend to call him Jimmy (snicker)... and some of them try to call Alejandro Alex... Which offends Alejandro quite a bit for a kid who doesn't like to use his middle name (Jose) because it's "too Spanish."

Just got a new toy. :) I bought myself an air rifle for my birthday (ok, it ain't here yet, but it's coming, all right?). Made by Beeman. Model RS2-1073.

The real excuse is that my son and I never got a chance to spend any quality time this summer in the country shooting. So I got us something that we can use in the city, out in the garage or in the basement.

This is not a bb gun either. This thing is supposed to have a max muzzle velocity of 1200 fps with the .177 pellets, and about 900 fps with the .22 caliber pellets. I have two interchangeable barrels for it, both rifled. Weighs about 8 pounds. It kicks about like a .22. rimfire, and sounds like one too. Which is perfect for our purposes, since my son loves to shoot my Ruger. Effecive for small game out to about 50 yards, according to the user reviews I have read. Meh. I just want to plink with it.

I really was surprised at the quality of the scope that came with it. 4 x 32, and the optics are surprisingly good for the price. I have seen scopes that cost more than the whole gun kit altogether which did not give as good a sight picture. Good trigger safety, and trigger is supposed to be adjustable, but I like it the way it is.

Only one potential gripe. The breech seal is a simple o-ring that may need replacement. It looks a bit small. I think a larger ring might give me a better seal. But I will need to spend some time shooting this thing to be sure.

Not half bad for $130 US.

That's a hell of a friggin air rifle. My .22 was $130. It's definitely bargain, though.

I get that you went with an air rifle so you could use it in the city... but if it sounds like a .22... aren't the neighbors gonna call the police all the same as if you actually had a .22?

Well...

I only get the really high speed (and loud crack) when I use the high perf coated ammo. Regular .177 pellets only give me 900-1000 fps, which is below the sound barrier. :) Anyway, if the neighbors complain I am still safe. All the cops will do is shake their heads and walk away. Especially if I am inside the garage.

Speaking of neighbors. My neighbor across the street, the one who runs the free-lance pharmaceutical company had a bit of bad luck last night. I don't know if the last person whose kidneys he tried to remove resented it, or if he tried to over extend his production capacity. But for whatever reason his rattletrap van burned to a rather toasty crisp, along with the end of his garage.

Ah well. That's life in the big city. :D

Congratulations Alelou.

My happy news: I get to continue to work in a new research project in the same place I worked this summer for the next six months and do my masters theses there.
