Listening to "Firefly" soundtrack clips on YouTube and wishing there were such a thing as an album in which the composer could actually work these wonderful themes out to their full potential ... instead it's all short and choppy with lots of the inevitable TV action scene background music in there. This series had some of the loveliest scores I've ever heard but for just listening it's frustrating.

I guess that's true of most soundtracks.

Thanks, but it's not that the excerpts are frustrating -- it's that the actual soundtrack album, by its very nature, is frustrating. Truth is I find MOST soundtrack albums frustrating. I just wish the composer could put together something using all those great themes that's actually geared towards a single musical performance, instead of being background in a TV show.

But that's not what he's getting paid for, and he probably wouldn't have the rights to get paid for anything else anyway.

As you all can probably tell from my new av and sig, I have spent the last few days watching all the LotR movies. Great stuff!

As an absolute Tolkien fangirl, I couldn't agree more with you :D

But I have to say that "TLOR: The Return of the King" in its theatrical release was rather stressing for me. Eowyn is my favorite character and my only thought through all the movie was: "I want to hear her quote. Peter Jackson, if you have erased that quote, THE line of Eowyn, I'll personally cut your :censored:" Then the moment came and she said: "I am no man."

Well... not so bad... I could die in peace :D

(I was mad as hell because there was not a Faramir/Eowyn scene in that movie, but still...)

I'm just flabbergasted that KTR couldn't find a shot of Arwen's ass anywhere.

Don't confuse 'couldn't' with 'hasn't'

I liked Eowyn in the books more than in the movie. Maybe it was Miranda Otto's characterization but she came across as very weak to me. Even in her anger and desire to fight, I actually saw it as like an inability to sit still because of some deeper mental issues than just plain bravery and the like. I don't know what it was... Just didn't seem that strong to me in the films. In fact, she struck me a bit obsessed with Aragorn. Maybe it was like that in the books and I'm forgetting, but like by the end of the film, you really just get the impression that Aragorn went with Arwen and Eowyn is SOL (even though the Faramir thing happened). I have to admit though, I even though while reading it that Eowyn/Faramir was just way too convenient. Does EVERYBODY have to get together with someone? Why CAN'T Eowyn just be sad and alone? She's gotta go settle for Faramir, huh?! Well maybe Eowyn should just turn to an alternative lifestyle!

Heh! Considering that she only wore long dresses and robes, there is no ass shot of Arwen. :( I might go and look for Liv Tyler's ass though...

Well, to be honest, I kinda liked the idea of Aragorn and Eowyn. They had all these interactions whereas with Aragorn and Arwen you're just supposed to take it at face value that they have a history. And yes, the Faramir thing was way too convenient. But I wouldn't have wanted this turned into a soap opera or anything, and the source material is what it is. And as far as characters go, I like Eowyn better, probably because she was better developed, even if Arwen is more exotic and beautiful.

...doing?

Procrastinating. I should grab some lunch and clean up the living room and kitchen. We have a floating Monday Night Heroes party with the neighbors, and when there's no Heroes. it turns into Movie Night instead. Tonight it's at our house. But I don't want to clean, I don't want to do chores. I start a second job in a week and a half and I just want to enjoy my second-to-last Monday of freedom. :(

Gosh. That's starting to sound more like it's for the "whine thread." Sorry. My bad.

That's perfectly understandable to me. I've been job-hunting myself today. Haven't found anything ideal, but I'm heartened to see that there are still jobs of some kind to be had that aren't of the usual bogus "Work at Home!Earn 8000K+ Per Week!No Experience Necessary!" variety.
