I miss all this great programming because I'm too cheap to pay for HBO...

Re: What are you...
Oh man. You haven't gotten to the last couple of years of Christopher yet, have you? Watching the Sopranos is watching characters who are often given an opportunity for some small degree of redemption continually choose the opposite. It's fascinating watching them continually readjust their moral compasses.
House of Saddam was kind of similar that way. Definitely worth watching.

Oh man, that's wild. So Edison was a kind of Mulder nutcase character? Where's the HBO original program on THIS?
I hope you don't have to READ that whole book in one week! I had a class my freshman year with a different 18th century book every week. Like Boswell's Life of Johnson. That class was very useful, though not in the way the professor had intended, because it taught me how to desperately skim a book well enough to fake it.
Well, Edison was trying to cash in on a fad. After the carnage of WWI people were trying to cope, see, and one way was an increased interest in spiritual stuff, especially the idea that you could communicate with the dead.
I have lots of reading, but we history grad students get pretty good at skimming. This semester, 24 books, but one class is a research seminar, so there will be more for that on my topic. Then there are the journal articles...
Meanwhile, I'm desperately hoping everything fits in my car. (Decided against commuting after all.)

That's good. Commuting is not much fun. Good luck with the packing.

I did like the character, but I absolutely hate her voice. It sounds like a screeching banshee on helium.![]()

Yeah, I realised you were really only talking about the voice a little late. I can't do that, I either like the whole package or nothing. All these fancy terms you guys are throwing around, like character and concept and actor and whatnot ... I don't even know what it is

(Yes I do, I just can't ... distinguish them. I can't see these things apart from each other).
It's especially aggravating when reading something like KTR's reviews ... he's so anti-archer that I sometimes think that pretty soon he'll start sending death threats to scott bakula or something ... but then I realise he basically only has a problem with how archer is being written in that particular (or those very many, in this case

EDIT: I should not write late at night ... weird errors creep in that way

*coughs* You rang!
Yeah, that's basically right. One observation I've made online is that there are some people that have a harder time differentiating between character and actor, or even character and personal beliefs and take it personally when one objects to a character they happen to like.
I don't know a lot about Bakula as an actor since I haven't seen him in much aside from ENT. But one thing is fairly certain, he can't play angry convincingly. The writers and directors should've realized that and not have him yelling the way he does. I think a quiet, more subdued anger would've worked better for him.
She's got an awfully nice bum!

Watching: Daria. It's the last week before school starts, so I'm rewatching one of my favorite shows so I can load on sarcasm before I have to face my professors and classmates. It works like a charm, I'm tellin' ya.

Re: What are you...
Yes, well, I don't dislike Bakula's Angry!Archer as much as some of you, but then I haven't seen most of the episodes featuring Angry!Archer. (Here I pause to note that Angry!Sisko was good but then I found Avery Brooks too wooden when he wasn't doing angry.) However, one problem with this goes back to the inconsistent writing. It was probably hard for Bakula to develop a persona when the characterization kept changing. As for his acting strengths, though, I always though he was good as the caring captain. In "Observer Effect," for instance - a very good episode all around - I found Scott Bakula's performance to be quite good.Kevin Thomas Riley wrote:I don't know a lot about Bakula as an actor since I haven't seen him in much aside from ENT. Guilty as charged. I don't even notice if they characterise him differently between episodes. I've been rewatching season 1 since I got the dvd set and was astonished to find myself yelling at him in civilization because of something obnoxious he did.
But that might've been totally in character, *I* just didn't agree with it

Re: What are you...
You want to see Archer being obnoxious, start reading the latest chapter of Leiterian Chronicles over at fanfic.net. (Or hopefully here, soon.)
Oh man. I agree in principle with Archer's view of the matter, but BnB and D have him chewing her out in High Vulcan! If I were T'Pol I think I would have just quit on his ass. She must REALLY love Trip.
Anyway, that story is always a good read (and a meaty one -- I'm only about a fifth of the way into the chapter), but I had to rant a little. Surak!Archer is definitely one of my least favorite Archers.

Re: What are you...
Yeah, I was kind of "I don't know..." about Surak!Archer when I first saw that last month. And a couple episodes later when T'Pol goes to do her first mind meld and he's all "Here, I'll show you..." Gah! That rubbed me the wrong way for some reason.

Can't wait.
Damn, now I'm all hyper and anxious and stuff. Damn! Hurry up oh dear gracious fanfic admin or I'll
