It's possible, but yeah, IDK. The thing is... when people say about adults or even adolescents, that there was no outward sign of depression, I just say "DUH!" because people who really are depressed learn how to hide it, because it's not for attention. In fact it's the opposite.

Now, for children this young, I just can't imagine how a child that young has learned how to hide it if he's got like... bipolarity going on, or sociopathic inclinations like he tortures little animals, or serious temper issues, etc.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I had a serious temper when I was younger. I realized I had to learn how to control it when my mom said it reminded her of how her father would get drunk and shout at her mother. He never hit her or anything, and in fact this was only behavior that went on in his 30's and 40's, and was totally totally gone by the time I knew him in his 70's. But when I realized that my voice (I have a very deep, booming voice) really terrified her when I got mad, I realized I had to do something about it.

So now I'm like totally the opposite. Pretty tacit and mellow about most things... in fact it makes me mad because the other night, I feel like I should have done something about the 'domestic violence' situation I mentioned (which, as I said, was not my family), but I've kinda programmed myself over the last... idk, 10 yrs, not to get that angry or get violent anymore. Overall that's probably a good thing, but I don't like when I feel like a moment has passed when 'something' was warranted.

This is probably way off topic, but it terms of missing an opportunity to do something about domestic abuse, I still have vivid memories of a "missed opportunity" in Thailand, twenty-five years ago. I can still see this woman (not Thai, she was a refugee) beating this one year old baby with a stick outside a hospital (I think she was a patient). This was in front of a crowd of people all shaking their heads and one young man beside me who spoke the same language as her, started shouting at her to stop, which she eventually did, but not immediately. I still wonder why I didn't run right up to her and intercept her. So maybe from all those years or pondering what I should have done, I acted on my next opportunity. I think the community in general has a responsibility to intercede at least on behalf of young children. I was at a hospital here in Pittsburgh with my son who was 3 at the time. It was the middle of the night and some father walked into the waiting room threw his two year old in a chair and screamed at her that she was horrible and to sit there an not move or else . . . I forget what, but it was inappropriate. My son said, "Mommy look at that!" and I said very loudly, "I see that. I'm watching and if he does anything else I'm calling security." Then another parent muttered something similar and the guy stalked out. So there was the screaming two year old left in the chair and I went over and picked her up and put her on my lap and went "There, there" or whatever and she instantly settled down and stopped crying. Then in like a few minutes the father came back and I thought, oh no, I'm in trouble, but the father came over and sat down beside me and says. "You must be an angel because you can deal with her and I can't. She won't sit still, she won't stop crying for me." Then I got to do my whole talk about that is perfectly age appropriate behavior for a two year old up in the middle of the night. And you got to do this and that . . . whatever my speech was. And believe it or not, the guy just listened and said "thank you!" This really happened. And years later, a mother two doors down from us started screaming and crying hysterically at her kids so you could hear it two houses away and I called and asked if she wanted to send the kids to my house to watch TV for a while till she pulled herself together and she said, yes. Conversely, when one day I was shopping with my 1 year old twins and a three year old and they were grabbing things and trying to jump out of the stroller and running away and stuff was spilling from my cart and I started shouting at them and I looked up and like three disapproving sets of eyes were on me, warning me (silently) not to hit those kids. It was very encouraging, believe it or not. I felt supported, like the community was telling me, there is no way we will let something bad happen here. So anyway, I don't buy the "it's a private matter what people do to their kids in their own families" idea. I think the community has some responsibility for each other. If you see something bad about to happen, put the offender on notice that you're watching and might possibly intercede or call the police.

I got my hunter's permit in 6th grade, and I was learning to shoot .22 and 16 gauge shotgun before that - Dad basically gave me hunter's ed. before I took it officially. I never shot anyone. I own my own gun now, a British .303, and I still have yet to shoot anyone (and I hope I never am forced into a situation where I have to). But I'm not fucked up. This kid is obviously fucked up.

Poor woman, probably didn't even see it coming. :( Maybe that's for the best, not to have to know you were betrayed by someone you trusted. :?

And now for something totally random:

At my second job, we do packaging for pharmaceuticals and some food items. The last couple weeks they've had me bottling these pills for--ahem--male enhancement.

They smell like feet.

I kid you not. They stink.

So I'm thinking, "Dude...if you're having that much trouble getting it on with a lady, maybe it's because you took that pill???"

I was watching American television by the internet and once in awhile you had this ad about male enhancement. You see this guy with a terrible plastic smile telling he is so happy now. Trouble is, I had no idea what it was. Really no idea. Vitamine pills? So I asked my husband, who had a great laugh.

^ Ah, you saw the "Smilin' Bob" commercial!!

When I talk about this, that's the first thing everyone asks me: "Is it the 'Smilin' Bob' stuff???"

And I say, "No, it's not even THAT classy!"

The stuff you saw the commercial for is basically a whole lot of nothing with an inflated price tag. They're selling hope, and not much more, because there's no conclusive proof that the pills actually do anything.

I think Smilin' Bob gives everyone the creeps. Seriously. Those commercials alone would inspire me to not buy the stuff, even if I was the target consumer!
