Watching: BBC America has the series premiere of Torchwood and I think I might be getting myself hooked on another show here.

Re: What are you...
I think we're managing to manufacture enough horrifyingly antiobiotic-resistant strains of bacteria on our own right now, we hardly need to worry about alien stuff coming down. I was reading about a town in Iowa, with pig farms in it, where a good proportion of the population is walking around with MERSA infections. They think it's because they feed antibiotics routinely to the pigs. I'd say, "Good God, Jim, we're talking about Universal Armegeddon!" -- except that these people are, to a great extent, still walking around with MERSA, not dropping dead of it (though some have). We're lucky our genes can adapt too. Of course, that won't comfort you much if it's your kid who drops dead of a sore throat at the age of 17 because farmers thought it was the cheapest way to raise pigs.
How can we spend all this effort trying to train doctors not to over-prescribe antibiotics to our children when they have ear infections, but ignore what's going on with all these mammals we're raising for food? It's just FREAKING IDIOTIC!!!!!

I read about that.
And the thing that gets me most is that, so far as I understood, the farmers are still feeding the pigs the same stuff!

Re: What are you...
It's probably so embedded in the industry they'd have trouble finding the feed without it. Who knows. I know farmers can't afford to just throw good feed out, but this is ridiculous.

In my YMAM3 chronology, there was a drug resistant superbug MERSA outbreak in the San Francisco Bay area in like 2060, right during the third world war, that killed like 60,000 people or something.

Watching an episode of Time Trax with John de Lancie and he's playing a guy named Reicher (but it sounds like Riker)

Re: What are you...
My weekend of teaching a boating safety class is over! The class was held at the yacht club my family belongs to. All twenty students passed their Department of Natural Resources test to get their "boating licence". There is a law now in Wisconsin that everyone born after Jan. 1, 1989 has to have a boating safety course to be able to drive a boat. So our boating courses are now filling up fast. I get a severe case of stage fright before teaching a class, but got through it in spite of the projector continuously going out while trying to show the power point illustrations. And no one noticed I was nervous! So I guess it counts as a successful weekend. The worst thing that was said on the course evaluation sheets was "talk more about navigation rules and less on the different types of life jackets" and "the teacher should have stopped those other kids from texting on their cell phones during class". I didn't even notice the texting as I was so focused on the material I was trying to get across.
Students in the class. My grandson is sitting way in the back on the right, at a separate table where he helped with registration.

Me teaching the class in a photo taken by my grandson. He was kind of shaky with the digital camera, but he was a real help with grading the tests.

Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.
