Re: Randomness
Hmm, I think the sonic screwdriver works in "Doctor Who," or at least the new one. The Doctor manages to get into trouble that can't be solved with the sonic.
LOL! "Even the French Army"
And I'm usually the one who likes to point out that French armies were once the terror of Europe
It becomes clear that the U.S. Army, or even the French Army, could beat this highly advanced sci-fi team over their lunch break.

Re: Randomness
Actually I think when the French would send the French Foreign Legion against anybody the opponent would run away.

I know. That site has a nasty habit of doing that to you. And don't get me started on tvtropes.com...

I liked the "5 Real Life Soldiers Who Make Rambo Look Like a Pussy" http://www.cracked.com/article_17019_5-real-life-soldiers-who-make-rambo-look-like-pussy.html. Some guys in the list have some serious kill counts. I like number 5 the best Simo Hayha. The guy killed 705 soviets in 100 days 542 of them with his rifle in a very cold weather.

Only when they weren't being lead by a Frenchman.

Re: Randomness
Nope. Not true. Louis XIV. Even under his father Louis XIII, although really French military prestige peaked under XIV, the "Sun King." (Until Napoleon, who yes was Corsican.)

^ Yeah, I know. The problem with "The Pirate Party" is that it's a single issue party. They don't have a view on other questions except those related to the Internet, file-sharing and copyrights.

Re: Randomness
Sure, it'd be nice to get pretty much anywhere in the galaxy in about fifteen minutes. But think about what that really means: No matter where in the universe you went, there would be a Starbucks, McDonald's and Taco Bell there waiting for you.
Ha! I'd like to see any of those try to make a go of it on VULCAN. (Well, obviously I'm ignoring the 2009 'verse.)
But hell, Andoria could probably use a Starbucks.

Re: Randomness
Today there was an article about Trek fan fiction, or rather slash fanfics, in Sweden's largest daily. Can be read here for those that understand Swedish (or you can try Google Translate).
The title of the piece is "In Space No One Can Hear You Make Out" and mostly deals with Kirk/Spock slash, which apparently has had a resurgence after Abrams Trek. It does acknowledge that there is other fanfic:
But why write so lengthy on this subgenre? Frankly, most of the time fanfic is mentioned in media it's always slash. It gives us a bad name.

But slash is still a small and infamous subgenre in the big world of existing fan fiction (now mainly on the Internet). Most stories that fans write about their film, book or series favorites are not about the male characters nailing each other.

Re: Randomness
I clicked all over that thing, but I couldn't get past the teasers. I suppose it might help if I knew what "Read the article here" was in Swedish. Gotta love that piece of fan art, though.
I just don't get K/S slash. Kirk's a hound dog with hot babes over and over in canon, so if Spock has a 'relationship' with him, then he has no self respect at all, and that just doesn't strike me as the least bit Spock. Not to mention Spock has the occasional babe himself. So it just makes no sense to me unless they're both hopelessly unfeeling sluts.
And it's not that I'm disgusted by the idea of same sex relationships. I thought Reed and Hayes had great chemistry.
