I thinking to study again - well, maybe not in the near future (2 small kids, fulltime job, husband takes care of the kids) and the only subject I really can think of, besides the studies I already have done, is a study of history. Or art history. I also need a different job SOON and I want something different, so it may be wise to study something that can actually help me to get a job!
Somehow I think it would be awesome to have Eian as a professor, but I don't think he is looking for a job on the other side of the ocean.

You have no idea Alelou. But should I think you believe that might be a bad thing? :? I got along wonderfully with all of my professors except two, one thought that being black in society was a greater hardship than being disabled. I didn't understand what that had to do with English, even though we were concentrating on Maya Angelou and Helen Keller. The other didn't understand the concept of not having an opinon on politics. Which was odd because it was a history class not a political science class, yet his entire course was desined to track the development of Classical Liberalism. Or in layman's terms, the founding father's of the US Government's origional concepts. What this had to do with the part of history we were studying, (we didn't even get to the point where the US was formed) I am still trying to figure out. I suppose it didn't help that I was 16 in the English class, and 17 in the History Class.

My origional plan was to go to Mary Baldwin, a really elite all girl's college here in the Shenandoah Valley. I have a full academic scholarship, major in Art History and Minor in French and English Lit. 5 operations later and one to go, I'm not there yet.

Oh, I'm just saying you sure have strong opinions for a young lady of your age and experience. I'd love to have you in the class I have to teach at 7:30 am this fall. With any luck you'd rile everybody up with some nice, energetic arguments.

I wish. But I will never get up that early for anything, not even Brad Pitt or Robbie McNiell. But I work hard and love to learn so maybe you'd like me.

He just finished his teaching job on the other side of the ocean!!! Image Seriously, I just completed a long-term teaching engagement in Galway, Ireland. With the exception of the fall semester '08, I've been over there for years. And though Thor knows I love me extended kin, and adore me Gran and Grandda somethin' fierce, I'm super-glad to be back in Texas with me immediate family.

Oh GOD NO! Not what I meant. I love history professors, I had one of the absolute best my first semester of college. I couldn't understand why she was wasted at the college I was in. No my next Professor, a man Moynahan which should have given me an edge being that I'm half Irish myself (KIDDING!), was just awful. He called me ignorent and stupid just because I said there was no clear evidence Anne Bolyn was a whore. Um like I didn't read 15 bios by catholics, and protistants exploring BOTH sides of the inherent religous conflict of her portayal. And don't get me started what he called me when I said Democracy has virtues and flaws like any other government. Because none of the names were flattering.

Just for saying those two things that:

A. Are true

and

B. Anybody with an average knowledge (i.e. myself) can infer?

Was he mental? On pills? Something?

I say completely insane. Because he failed 95% of EVERY class he taught in one school year. In my class 7 people passed. Out of 35 people.

True, but the issue wasn't students not getting the information. He would give the standard test, which most people aced, but the essay he wanted had to extole the value of classical liberalism. And if you didn't agree with his opinions you failed. And I'm not saying that because I failed. I never wrote the essay I protested the assignment. I know because some classmates went to the board and turned the essays into them instead. When they had an inquiry the jerk admitted it. The class was World Civ 12 not a class on how the principles of Classical Liberalism are inherently perfect, despite idiots constantly screwing things up.

In college I had one adjunct professor who brought wine to the last day of class despite half the class being under 21. He wasn't invited back, and was a lousy teacher anyway - basically his entire history of South America class was "How the US has Screwed South America and Why We Should Trade With Cuba." Professors who are determined to push an agenda are dreadful. But I've had some excellent professors too.

That's nothing one of my mother's professors used to hand out weed to his students. But then again late 70's not too surprising. My second English Professor was a dream come true. A poetry lover and a NY Yankee finatic, what could be better? His classes were so interesting and fun. I STILL miss him. He helped me survive Western Civ 12. He hated that guy, but not as much as the rest of the history dept. They threw a HUGE party when he left.

Of course you do! I totally understand. The things you can explain with a couple of Trek-episodes. I mean, talk about the history of exploration and discovery between 1600 until 1800 and compares this with ENT!

Oh, yeah, I know what you mean. I had one of those too, the Procedural Law teacher. He had a chair, so he couldn't be fired, even if the 90% of the department wanted it (especially the one this teacher punched.) You had to buy his book, answer exactly what he wanted and he had an opposite doctrine to the rest of the Procedural Law experts in Spain (and part of Europe.) Even now I have to learn it this way: "the doctrine thinks X, except Him, who thinks Y."
