Did I sound offensive? It wasn't my intention at all.

Nope. S'what the little laughing dude was for. I was amused, lass.

OH OK got scared there for a minute. You make me think a lot of my Irish half. My granfather's brothers somtimes call me lass. But they're from Queens NY so the effect is rather odd.

Re: The Happy News thread
My happy news is that my car didn't float away. At first glance that may not make sense, but I was going to the grocery store today and turned onto a side road, since the back way has a lot less traffic. Well, it's been raining and it rained a lot today, so part of the road was flooded. Not a huge section - maybe a couple/few dozen yards (I'm so bad at guessing distance), but the road wasn't closed. Instead, there was a 'Road Flooded' sign. Only someone, in a clear brain lapse, put this highly important sign just a few yards from the flooded bit. So I didn't really have a lot of options. I drive a Ford Focus so it's not like I've got a big SUV or anything, and the driver's ed stories about how little water depth it takes to float a car were coming back to me. I was driving through carefully and with much frantic prayer, and thankfully made it fine. But, there's nothing like a close call to make things look up.

Of course, my brothers would have plowed right through.

Re: The Happy News thread
That is good news. I had a colleague whose car DID start to float away back in some hurricane-related flooding in NJ... luckily a passerby stopped and helped him get out before it was too late.
Driving onto a covered roadway NOT good.

Re: The Happy News thread
Okay, so we went down to our granddaughter's 4th birthday party today and since it was a huge crowd of 16 kids and assorted adults in a crowded children's museum on a miserable rainy day, and I'm not a party person at the best of times, I expected it would just be something to endure. I also had my doubts Frankie was going to love it because an introvert can recognize another introvert when she sees one.
Well, she totally freaked almost as soon as she got there and demanded to go home (among other things, she was absolutely terrified when she heard that a life-size Ariel was walking around the place -- she's DEFINITELY not into real-life clowns or characters -- and honestly, that bright red Ariel wig WAS a little freaky when I caught a glimpse of it). So she and I ended up sitting on the stoop outside, just inside the overhang from the pouring rain, reading Beauty and the Beast over and over, interrupted by repeated missions of relatives and other children trying to entice her inside with visions of presents, cupcakes, friends, etc -- as well as guarantees that Ariel had swum away with her friend Flounder or just driven off to her next job, depending on who told the story. I even tried the old "I brought you a princess Barbie but you won't be able to see which one unless you go in." She wanted none of it if it meant going back in there.
She did FINALLY go in just long enough to blow out her four candles, then demanded to go out again. If she couldn't go home, she just wanted the story again.
Anyway, I don't envy her poor parents after all that planning (I won't say expense, since a relative works there and therefore it was thankfully really cheap for them). But the honest truth is that I had a great time. Much better than I expected.

Re: The Happy News thread
I threw big birthday parties for my kids and they loved them, with 20 kids and lots of noise and commotion. However, my oldest, J., would always crawl under the table during the singing of "Happy Birthday." By "always" I mean his did it when he was 3 and he did it when he was 16, lol . . . And one year he asked, "Can I take these presents up to my room and open them there?" No . . . he can't. lol . . .
Happy news: My twins are graduating from High School today. One at 1:00 and one at 4:00. Well, it's happy for them. No I'm so proud of them.

Congratulations, Mom. Good job! Will you be able to race from one to the other in time?
