I just spent ALL day yesterday making this with my 15 yr old sister in law. She sang the song and recorded the guitar, piano, and bongos as well.

I was up till 1:00 am rendering it.

Well, all you need to do is mount your wide-angle camera onto a telescope or camera mount that tracks (moves slowly to compensate for the movement of the Earth so the stars don't turn out as lines), or else take really short exposures, and then take a new exposure beginning in the same part of the sky every few minutes. I bet the details are on the beginning of that video.

Anyway, that's exactly how it looked. Looking at the video I remember how the nights went, what we were hunting for when.

I guess my real question is -- is that camera taking its pictures through the telescope, or is that 'bare eyes' stuff? Cuz that's just amazing. I can't imagine just seeing that up in the sky.

And yeah, the HD version IS amazing.

No, no telescope was involved. That was a very wide angle view. But it is a little brighter than you see with your bare eyes because your eyes can't collect twenty seconds worth of photons per view. But with your bare eye (OK, I have to wear glasses) you really do see that "edge-on galaxy" appear with the black dust lane through the center and all that detail.

In the video I also can even make out the zodiacal light, which is a wedge of brightness perpendicular to the Milky Way that appears in the early evening resulting from sunlight light refecting off dust in our solar system. Just like I could see it there but no where else. You need a very dark location for a view like that.

This is a friendly dog climbing on and licking on of our dignified Vancouver news anchors. They cut to weather eventually, but you can still hear everyone laughing. I love this as it's local! lol
