 to both of you -- though, Aikiweezie, I'm glad I don't have to actually hug you in person while you're contagious. Hope you get better quickly.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but I was kind of hoping I might catch the flu when I still had time to get over it before classes begin, although I can't REALLY hope that because I wouldn't want my kid exposed to it at all because of the asthma issues. I wish those vaccines were ready.

I'm also tired of so many people thinking I'm some kind of nasty witch here. I mean I haven't to my knowledge been nasty to anyone here and yet people talk to me like I am. Time to crawl into bed and not come out for a week I guess.

The flu situation this year is insane. We shouldn't be seeing flu until October or November, but they're having to cancel sorority rush parties at the university where I work. 4 of the sorority houses have documented influenza A... presumed to be "Swine Flu" because seasonal flu isn't here yet. I saw three girls in the office with positive flu tests just this morning. And there's no vaccine yet. I'm starting to get paranoid. And classes won't even start until the 24th.

Nobody thinks you're a "witch", Warpgirl. Besides, the only "witch" I know is a real sweetie (right, Linda? ;-) ).

Go to bed and get a good night's sleep, WG. You'll feel better in the morning.

Swine Flu is the only reason I'm glad I CAN'T go to college again right now. What really scares me is my pregnant best friend in Houston is in an area where there have been a lot of cases. That baby is coming in two weeks and I am terrified.

If I were her, I'd be on prophylactic Tamiflu for the next two weeks.

Yes, a good night's sleep is always a good idea. Probably the best way to avoid catching the flu in the first place.

If I may offer a modest suggestion, WG, you might want to think twice before you use more than one exclamation point at a time, or switch to different colors, or go all caps on words when you are in the middle of a debate. Online, where we have nothing to go on but what we see typed on the board, it comes across as shouting. This may be why some people are getting that impression, if they are. Debating and discussing is what we do here, but without the ability to hear tone of voice or see your face, we're pretty much dependent on these textual cues.

Will a doc prescribe that? That sounds like a good precaution if it's available.

Tamiflu is indicated for prophylaxis in cases of unavoidable exposure in high risk patients, like if a person is on chemo and is the mother of a child with flu. or if they are diabetic or asthmatic and in a group home or nursing home where there's flu. Pregnant women have died of this flu. If she's really high risk for exposure her OB might agree to give her meds, especially since there's a definite time limit. As soon as she delivers her risk of serious complications from the flu goes down again and she can get off. Prophylactic Tamiflu is definitely not a good idea for basically healthy people, though. The widespread use of the drug may cause resistance. If this flu strain becomes resistant to antivirals and then mutates to a more virulent form like everyone's afraid it might do, that would be a VERY bad thing. We'd end up with another Spanish Flu. In that outbreak in 1918, which was untreatable because no antivirals or vaccines existed, there was a greater than 10% fatality rate, mostly in perfectly healthy young people. One teenager in ten who got the disease DIED. Not something we want to see again.

Can they give a pregnant woman that medicine when her blood type is clashing with the baby, and the RH is all screwed up? When I said Witch I meant the kind where a B is in the W's place. Anyway I just want to hide until I am so old and covered with wrinkles that I look like Valarie in The Princess Bride, then nobody will care anyway.

"I'm not a witch, I'm your wife!"

I went to bed at 9:00 last night with 103 fever, sweated my brains out and feel 95% better today. Just a sore throat. This is a really weird bug. My husband had it twice this summer and my son once. It's a short thing, but nasty.

We're going to the Air & Water show on Lake Michigan today anyway. Don't want to be a party pooper.

 WarpGirl - looks like you need it.

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

"And after what you just said, I'm not even sure I want to be that anymore." Gotta love Valarie and Miracle Max. But personally I like Valarie, she dipps the pills an CHOCOLATE! Only a woman would think of that. Awe don't make yourself sicker ok. Me I'll be fine eventually. Although I have to say I never had so many problems on the Star Wars boards. There were only two people there who didn't like me, here... I've lost count. :(

But that's not true. Look at Trip and T'Pol, they're always arguing because they like each other :D
