Well vinager has a bad rep as a metephor, while water is usually a good metaphor. And you're right Dis. I'm just not a person who likes to focus on myself.

Re: The Happy News thread
WG, I hope you're not trying to suggest some moral comparison between your different stated approaches to life at this point. First of all, you are at two very different stages of life. Second, I think Aquarius is very much to be admired for what she is doing. There's nothing wrong with taking care of yourself. Indeed, it's pretty damned hard to be effective at doing anything else if you don't do that first.
OMG, ANOTHER new chapter! NORTH STAR Chapter 28

No I wasn't preaching any morality. I know almost nothing about Aquarius' life and there isn't anybody here who knows anything about mine, I was simply "talking."

Re: The Happy News thread
I do admire Aquarius a lot for going back to college and start over again. It takes guts and determination to make some more out of your life. Most of the times, life doesn't go like you planned it and deals out hard punches, so if people find the courage to change their life in a new and better direction - that is great. So go for it, Aquarius.
My family is also thinking hard of moving on to a new direction, after the disasters that hit us three years ago - and I am really curious where that road would lead us.

Aquarius, I admire anyone who has the courage to go back to school. My sister did it. I know she was far more motivated the second time than she was during her first go-round with college. She's in the unusual position of having an MBA and no bachelor's degree.
Congratulations on your high test scores!
Especially the one in history. Good luck!

Re: The Happy News thread
On the school thread. I knew all about delayed gratification once upon a time. Somewhere along the way, I forgot. Now, I struggle with any little deadline and take however long I have to finish a project, working up until 10 minutes before it is due. This is whether I have two days or two months. And I will NEVER go back to school. I still like learning . . . but I have no real discipline to actually study. But I sure applaud Aquarius.
On the "doing it for me" theme. That's where I am now. It is so strange doing things just for me. The boys are gone off to college. I admit, my immediate reaction was, So what is the point of cooking, cleaning or getting up in the morning, for that matter? But I am quickly adjusting. It was so strange going to the store for the first time and buying groceries that I wanted, instead of the boys favorite foods. And all those years that I transported my boys to their soccer games, I had always said, one day, I'm going to do the same for myself: sign up to play ice hockey, my favorite game. Well yesterday I followed through. Even to start, I needed to buy $260.00 worth of hockey equipment. Believe me, there were countless occasions I walked into a soccer store and walked out $260 dollars poorer buying soccer gear for the boys. Still the store sales people looked at me so worried. They kept warning me what an expensive sport this was and helped me find all the cheapest versions of everything. Even after I explained my situation--that I used to play recreationally and I had always promised myself I'd play again once the boys were gone--it was like the sales people couldn't remember this. One exclaimed "So many women are learning to play hockey so they can coach their kids. I think that's wonderful." I said, "I think that's wonderful too. But that's not what I'm doing. My kids are in college." Then again as I was checking out, I said something like, "Oh well, that's what it costs." And the guy at the checkout says again, "But, it's all for the kids!" And I said, "No, it's not. It's for ME."
Though I'm sure Alelou is shaking her head at this story, since she's seen me spend plenty on myself at a Star Trek convention, lol . . . .

JustTripn, now I want to see a picture of you, playing on the field, in full hockey gear! Hope you have great fun. BTW, it's ice hockey I pressume, not field hockey?

I join in Panyasan's desire.

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.
