This is just such a ridiculous situation ... like what happened to JT's son last year, only even more obviously ridiculous: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/12/educa ... pline.html

For the life of me I cannot understand people who believe in preventing educators from using any professional judgment. God forbid you should get caught in one of these inanities. Is this what fear of lawsuits leads to in this country? It's like something out of Idiocracy.

(I also think this kid looks like a young Trip.)

See I think it's stupid, but I also see why. It's stupid because good kids get punished, but I also understand why because you've got kids like my sociopathic cousin who would bring switchblades to school at age 6. So I just think it's sad all around.

That's really stupid to kick that little boy out of school because he had knife that could turn into utensils used a fork and knife to eat lunch.I saw Zachary and his Mom interviewed on Good Morning America this morning. These school rules are stupid and need to be done away with.

Well I certainly think that the definition of a weapon needs looked at. Also the children themselves need to be taken into consideration, their diciplinary history and so forth. Unfortunately terrible things happen, and they can't all be prevented, even with stringent regulation.

Oh, now wait a minute, don't they have knives in the school cafeteria anyway? How do the kids cut their meat? 45 days punishment? What's up with that? If that was my kid, he'd be out of that school and going to a different school. The poor kid is marked in that school now anyway.

Which is why I say some of the rules are absolutely worthless, what about pencils and pens? But do you do nothing?

Nope no knives in school cafeterias. I eat lunch with my daughter every week. Last week we had a roast chicken breast still on the bone. It was delicious but we had to eat it with our fingers.

Distracted, do you have drums and guitar in your church? You are totally hippies! We have an organ, at the most. Usually the priest puts a cassette (or maybe he can afford a CD by now) and people sing a capella. Not that I go to mass or anything, but when I must go I notice that nothing has changed since I was a child. And nothing will. Ever.

Distracted wrote:This new priest has decided that since HE doesn't like guitar and drums that all of us have to suffer through organ music in Latin and hymns that were old when I was a baby. I really don't get it. The guy isn't any older than I am, but he's got this obsession with outdated pre-Vatican II hymns that borders on OCD.

That's actually thanks to Ratzinger, I mean, Benedict XVI. He want's to introduce the mass in Latin and the old liturgy again (with, yes, the infamous pray for Jews). Typical Opus Dei bs. And I say this without any respect, since I'm from Jesuit background, like a good Basque

But I'm glad you found a new church where you're comfortable. That's the important thing

It's the Pope's fault, is it? Hmmm. That's interesting. I miss John Paul II. He did theater in college, did you know that? The man was a thespian at heart. He understood that one important role of the mass is to inspire the churchgoer in a way they can relate to, so they can then go out and live the faith. This new pope... well... he's German. And apparently REALLY old school, even for a pope. Fun, fun! Let's all get out our rosaries and chapel veils and sing in Latin, boys and girls! That'll go over well with the young people, I'm sure.

If I look at that, I get all upset all over again. That was probably the most upsetting thing that happened to me in recent memory. And it is SO common. I met so many others that this has happened to. Problem is everyone goes through it one by one. There is some coordination problem. We need to realize that as long as there are stupid zero tolerance laws EVERYONE is at risk. One can lose all their rights over some random occurrence. My poor little P. at the "Options Center" missing his Chemistry classes and his soccer games, and trying to apply to college. ARGGHHH!!!

At the time when kids were getting hit by nuns they were also getting hit in public schools. Now the public schools have "zero tolerance" and Catholic schools are so paranoid of lawsuits that they won't even allow parents to help with school activities until they get "Safety Trained". I've got to go to an hour long training session on how to recognize the signs of child abuse once a year just to be able to go in the classroom.

Whine: some virus or something is kicking my butt today. I had a hard time waking up, thought I was just a little tired at first, with a kink in my neck. Then in Linguistics the body aches started, and I nearly passed out in all three of my classes. :( I was so out of it by computer class I could barely focus on the lab instructions in order to figure out what to do. And this oscillating between hot and cold has got to stop...
