Congratulations!!!! Alelou. We have a Liam in our family. Very nice.

We didn't have time to think about it! We only had 24 hours notice that we were going to be parents.
We were at such a loss we considered naming him "Rex Goliath" after the wine we had to drink the night before we got him. "Rex Goliath" is a giant rooster, so it's good that we opted out of that one. :-P

WOAH! Jeeze um I'm sure he will appreciate it when he's older. I can't imagine the hassle he'd get at school from teachers and kids. My family name gave me trouble for years, still does. I'd love to adopt one day. But I think I'll have a list of names prepared just in case.

We had girls names. Emily Rose or Rose Emily. I wanted the latter. There are dozens of little Emilies in our neighborhood and among our friends right now. Never thought about boy names for some reason. Never expected to wait for only three months or have 24 hours notice either.

Hmm well I know it's all worth it. But my inner control freak would have a dozen possible scenarios planned out. I'm a freak like that. Now if only my sister would call me back so we can discuss her shower gift I will be happy.

My son went to his first dance tonight, and he even danced and said it was fun (this is the first year I've seen this kid dance at ALL -- and then just joking around in the house imitating John Travolta in "Pulp Fiction"). He immediately told me he wasn't brave enough to ask THE ONE to dance with him, though he came close (picked up her hair ribbon for her...). But she was in the group he danced with. So he still came home extremely cheerful.

When I went to pick him up I couldn't believe all these tiny skinny teen girls in teeny short dresses and delicate high heels picking their way through the falling snow without any trace of coats or jackets or even purses or cell phones. They sure travel light!

Watch out! By the time he's a senior he'll have the whole cheerleading squad after him! Then what will you do?

I'm not worried, yet. He's still a band geek. (I think the whole band danced together, frankly.)

Totally agree. That's why I was desperate to know the gender....I wanted to name the little kicker and not refer to her as "it". Aureilia was to be Westerly if she was a boy....Abby too. Once we had the 2 girls, we named Abby "Abigail Jane Westerly" to get that Westerly in there. *I* wanted to call her Westerly anyhow, but Lee voted me down. Aur is "Aureilia Jane Zoë". We have so many family names in our much-divorced family, that we didn't want to touch "using family names" with a ten foot pole. So we invented a new faily name that is nowhere in the tree: Jane. Now both girls have it and so we have a fresh, non-divorced tradition.

My take on being surprised by your fetus' junk....well, back in the day only special tests would reveal the gender. But now, ultrasound's the new wave and it's only getting clearer. Nearly everyone gets one. If you're HAVING an ultrasound, and there's gentitalia there STARING everyone in the face why "keep it a secret"? In the case of peeps who say "we want to be surprised!" I say, then why find out at birth? Why not just NOT LOOK for a little while longer, and wait till they're six weeks old (or years) and then look. SURPRISE! (imho)

(Probably almost) no one nowadays says, "Well doc, I know you suspect I've got twins or triplets in there, but don't look, cause I wanna be surprised on the day!"

I *do* understand not wanting to tell the rest of the world the gender, cause then you get all these silly over the top gender-specific toys and clothing, and you start worrying that the gender is wrong and you get all hormonal over it.

In PEI they can't tell you the baby's sex it's not allowed. I'm not joking, my sister's sister-in-law just had a baby. So I say when I found out she was pregnant. Will they decide to know? And my sister says "They won't tell you here." Apperently too many people were told they were having one gender and got another! Insane I'm telling you!

Sounds like their ultrasound people need more practice at recognizing little weenies. Usually if they tell you it's a boy you can pretty much bank on it. That means they saw something waving in the breeze. If they tell you it's a girl it means they DIDN'T see anything. That's a problem, because they might have just missed it. ;-)

In Vancouver they won't tell cause too many people are having gender-related abortions (so they claim). The 3D ultrasound I got of abby was amazing. You could toally see the vulva. Looked like looking up from below at a naked female baby sitting on top of a glass table.

The 2d ultra sound is not nearly so cool looking. We got some 3d stills that toally look like her!

You and that husband of yours are a great genetic combination. Your girls are beauties. I can't wait to see my nephew!

Now that's peculiar. Maybe she just had her hand between her legs and one finger was in the wrong place. ;-)

And wow, EK. I'd recognize her from those 3D ultrasound pictures. That's unusual. Most of the time the kid's face is all mushed flat like their nose is pressed against a window.
