Just keep in mind that it might take time to read and review your story. When half a dozen new stories go up -- and some of them are long -- it might take me a week to get around to reading and reviewing all of them. I feel bad about it, but it can't be helped. In some ways, though, that's better than receiving a few reviews on the first day and then nothing. It spreads the enjoyment out a little.

Absolutely which is why I catagorically refuse to check every 5 minutes. You know at my SW's site they e-mail you everytime you get a comment. There's no finger cramp from checking. I wish we had that here. They also let you have a list of favorite authors, which you get an e-mail if you get added to someone else's. And you get e-mail if your favorite authors post new chapters or stories. IT ROCKS. However it's complicated for the people who take care of the site, because it gets hacked sometimes.

And Dinah is right, it can take some time to review, especially a long story.

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

I just thought of something... Because the way the archives is set up e-mails might be a good idea. Someone like me who is at the BOTTOM of the list, (should have thought of that when I chose my name) is less likely to get a ton of traffic AFTER a post is off the main page. Someone like wonderful Bluetiger, or amazing Elessar is more likely to get a lot of traffic because they're at the top.

When I am finding new archive I am not ckecking in the alphabetical order, at fisrt I look at the catchy names of authors or stories. For example, at House of Tucker I started to read Hopeful Romantic's stories first. I suppose Warpgirl is sufficient catchy name ;-) , as a Bluetiger.

When we first got the internet WarpGirl was my first screen name. I took it out of moth balls when I came here. I don't find it particularly catchy though Thank you.

Alelou is alphabetically-advantaged but even so it's really rare to get any reviews once something is off the front page, or just old (decon and main engineering stuff can sit around for a loooong time but it seldom makes any difference).

Dinah is the goddess of reviewing. I think she reviews everybody who gets posted here, and always with great kindness.

I would try not to take it personally if someone doesn't review your work. Just because it's not to their taste doesn't mean it's not good. It's just not to their taste. Or their real life is busy enough that they're only reading the stuff they can't resist. It happens.

I agree with Panyasan that "I like it" is fine if you don't have anything else to add. Wouldn't you prefer that to nothing?

After having good luck with the reviews for the Season 1 missing scenes, I've decided the key to getting copious reviews at ff.net is having a multi-chapter story that goes up at frequent intervals, so that people get hooked and start begging for more. They also have more chances of happening upon it when they're just browsing. Single-shot stories never do as well. You can also just have bad timing and get pushed down the page quickly. If you post here first, that also definitely reduces the number of reviews over there. There aren't many TnT fans over there who aren't here as well. There are some extraordinarily nice people who review in both places, but I am not usually one of them unless I think a story has gotten a lot less attention than it deserves.

I am not as experienced at most if not all of you. I Tried FFNet just to see what reaction I would get. so I posted Mates, T-Pol's and Trip's POV.

T-Pol's got over 400 hits and 400 some odd visits. But, only one reveiw and that was just a question if there would be a chapter two. Trip's Pov only got a little over 100 hits and no reviews. I wonder how 400 some odd people can look at (hopefuly read) a story and at least some of them leave a review. If nothing but a criticism.

I didn't think that stoires were THAT bad.

It's not that I take it personally. I just want to do BETTER. I don't think people hate me or anything, I'm just trying so hard to do good quality work. I know I've been crabbing about this origional story I'm working on but hopefully I can get it published when it's done and polished. A family friend has a very powerful position in the publishing world. And she's always told me to write. This is practice, if I can't please people here and IMPROVE why would I think someone would buy any book I write. But really I don't cry or anything, number one priority for me here is HAVE FUN! But Dinah is the ABSOLUTE BEST, and a Goddess!

Agreed. There are a lot of factors, I don't think alphabetical situation of the author's name is that big of one. If I'm new to a community, I will simply ask, "What's good?" and let people point me toward different things. Failing that, I do the catchy name method, and I read the reviews before the story. Not that THAT is always that helpful, because I've seen the most repugnant stuff met with "Loved it! Write more!" So I get burned that way sometimes.

Some stories I haven't read if they're multi-chaptered and I was too busy to read when earlier chapters came out. I'll get to them eventually, like when I'm home from work on a sick day or something, but my absence doesn't automatically mean I don't like the author's work. When things get really busy and stressful, I tend to stick more with authors I already know I like, because I really don't have time to screw around with disappointment.

It's okay to check frequently for reviews. Reviews are our crack. Face it: writing for public consumption is in and of itself an egotistical practice. If we didn't care what other people thought of what we did, we'd leave it in the drawer or on the hard drive, we wouldn't bother to share it.

My personal status:

After this post I'm uploading fics.

I'm almost done with the first draft of a little something called "Red Flags and Long Weekends."

I'm stalled on the challenge Honeybee gave to me; I'm having trouble picking an episode.

I'm an anomaly I post to say, "There I did it I am not afraid!" Once I'm over the fear, feedback good or bad it's all the same as long as I learn I don't need an ego stroked. Just the act of putting it out there is my "Crack."

Warpgirl it's really unfortunate that you had such a bad experience with ff.net but please stop bad mouthing it just because it has not been pleasant for you. Myself and others get more reviews there from a wide variety of people and not just ones left in the stories as some people prefer to email their comments directly. Its where I make most of my comments on stories that are posted there before they appear here.

Also they do branch out if they like a writer and they offer more in the way of likes/dislikes/suggestions) than all but a few do here. There are a large number of inexperienced writers and those who are only playing at writing but they offer a safe, open forum for all and if you bypass the less serious writers there are some extremely talented writers. It's not perfect but then neither is TRS.
