Aaaarrrggggh!
I just lost a week's worth of work on chapter two of 'Convicted'. (AAFES implemented this new security policy that encrypts thumb drives attached to AAFES computers, and of course all my latest work was on that thumb drive, and I ended up reformatting it so I could use it in my personal laptop, thinking I had transfered the files first, but of course I hadn't so it is all gone, and I am EXTREMELY demoralized right now, because I am basically going to have to recreate EVERYTHING.)

An entire week of effort, gone. I discovered it a couple of days ago, and I sat down to start recreating the work, but I couldn't. I was just too agitated. To make it worse, it was a very difficult scene to begin with, and I had just got it to the point where I could read it without thinking 'this really sucks'. I'm not sure when I'll feel up to writing the same blasted stuff all over again. Soon, I hope. In the meantime, I spend my evenings watching Star Gate: Atlantis reruns (I'm just about done with season two).

So, I am in need of support. I would particularly be interested in a visit from Crewman Daniels; I short jaunt to the past with a thumb drive would fix the problem nicely.
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Transwarp I sympathize. I had several chapters erased by my grandson not long ago and I'm still trying to rewrite a couple of them. Chapters 30 and 32 are suffering because I can't seem to get back to what they were so I finally have thrown in the towel and am posting them as is. My muse evidently thought once was enough and abandoned me to my memory. Some of the chapters are better than they were before so I guess overall I'm happy. Just don't let it make you crazy. The more you can relax the easier it is to remember at least parts of what you wrote before.♦

Oh my gosh! :faint: Transwarp, I can't imagine trying to recreate something I'd written. Once it was gone... Wow! You're a brave, brave man. If I had any influence with Daniels, I'd use it. Good luck.

That's really painful. It's happened to me, too, even with paid work.

But you will be able to do it again, once you get past the agitation. It may even come out better.

I think everyone has been there Transwarp. When I switched from Mac to PC awhile back, I didn't realize that Mac software doesn't autosave. So, I lost a whole chapter of something I was working on and had worked hard on it when a circuit blew in my house. :duh:

It did take me about a week to get into the headspace of rewriting it - but I did and - I eventually felt that what I wrote was as good as or better.

But you do need to get over the crush before rebuilding.

Good luck!.

So, to avoid all the pain of the lost file, I was watching 'Stargate Atlantis' season 2 ep 18 ('Michael') and there was Conner Trinneer, playing the part of Michael (and doing a pretty good job, too). I also saw him in an episode of 'Sara Conner Chronicles' but I don't remember which one (he played a cop). And Jolene Blalock was in a couple of Stargate SG1 episodes, for that matter.

So anyway, as I was composing this post I realized I didn't know how to spell Conner's last name, so I googled it.

You know how google will auto-complete your search entry and display a list of suggested searches after you've keyed in just a few characters? I keyed in 'Conner Trin' and google popped up a list. The FIRST item on the list was 'Conner Trinneer'. The THIRD item was 'Conner Trinneer bio'. The SECOND item on the list? 'Conner Trineer underwear.'

I found this to be extremely disturbing. What have you ladies been googling?

That was totally me! Sorry.

There *was* a reason...other than the obvious. ;-)

ETA: OK I just realized that it might look like I was looking for them on auction at eBay or something, so I figured I'd better explain--

My friend Laura is an artist who's been doing illos for the fanzine I edit, etc. Once our zine goes to bed at the end of the month, she is going to do a few illos for "Body and Katra" for me, among other things. (I think she's already done a couple for the "Sex, Lies..." series but she won't let me see yet). Since her illos can get a little *ahem* steamy she was requesting pictures where you could see as much of his body as possible so she could draw him correctly. (Just occurred to me--she didn't request any of Jolene, but maybe that's because it's easier to find pics of her in various states of undress.)

Anyhoo--no, it wasn't anything gross!! :guffaw:

Thanks--still working hard on it. Don't want to post it until it's absolutely perfect.

We'll have to wait a bit on the illos, though. If they go to chapters already posted, I'll add them in and let everyone know after the fact.

Transwarp - I can sympathize with you. I had written about 10 chapters of my first version of The Captives when my son made my computer crash. I thought I lost everything. Then the IT man of my work, helped me and he told me to search the hard drive. So I used the search programm for all documents and found a sort of copy of the chapters, like a cookie. I had to click and copy - but the chapters were intact. I don't know if this is of help for you and if not, hopefully you get inspired to rewrite that second chapter.
BTW, since our "great crash" we are in the habit of sending documents to our e-mail account on hotmail or gmail. You can store your documents there and even when your computer crashes, your documents are stored in cyberspace, to be found on your hotmail/gmail e-mail page.

Aquarius - I am really looking forward to chapter two of Body and Katra. Hope you find that perfection soon.

Now I am off to write a space battle! Never done it before and curious if I can pull it off.

Oh, that's good advice about the email, Panyasan.

Google documents is another free idea that can help. You can save stuff out in the cloud that way.
