I'd hate to see your liver... Once upon a time in a Marylin Monroe movie she had a famous line... There was an old fellow named Sidney who drank till he ruined a kidney, it shrivled and shrank, but he drank and he drank. He sure had his fun with it didn't he...

Yikes!

Whatever you say, Kotik. Just, please, don't do it too often. You'll kill yourself doing that.

There's one motto in my life. "Life is a sexually transmitted desease that inevitably ends in death." To be honest, I don't give a flying expletive, if I take the final warp trial west tomorrow. I've lived it to the max :) I could do without the hellish hangover, but I'm living my life just like that - I take everything that comes along and if the grim reaper drops by to collect me, there's little use in arguing, is there? If I hit the bucket, before I become senile or dependent on help, I've done it right.

Ever seen anybody with end stage liver disease? They need a hell of a lot of help.

None of us are trying to be your mother, Kotik. Do what you want to do. Just know that cirrhosis of the liver doesn't kill quickly, and it's a pretty damned miserable death as deaths go. I've been there on several occasions. It was a pretty common code blue scenario in the indigent hospital where I did my residency training. The only saving grace was that usually the patient was in a coma at the end. Gastrointestinal hemorrhage, on the other hand, is quite a terrifyingly colorful way to die, and the patient is usually awake until the very end, watching himself bleed out.

I'm done now. Sorry, Kotik. My dad hasn't had a drink now for over thirty years but we almost lost him back when he thought like you did. I can't help being in your face. It's because I consider you a friend. I hope you'll forgive me. Please don't kill yourself.

The lady knows what she says. My grandfather nearly died before 40, BUT he managed to stop the smoking and the drinking and is a very healthy old man with a wife, and grandkids to spoil! Think of it a family!!!!!!!!

Yep, seen one. My uncle was a alcoholic and literally drank himself to death. My statement was not meant to say that I'm a heavy drinker. Such crazy things like last weekend happen maybe 3 or 4 times a year, I'm not wasting myself constantly ;-)
What I was meaning to say is, that I'm not an overly cautious man. I'm 36 and I visit heavy-metal concerts and I'm not shy to jump into the mosh pit with much younger (and agressive) guys, that kind of thing. Worked out well a lot of times and did not work out last time (when I got mugged in july). I just take some risks that others shy away from. I said it in the other thread; I'm an atheist, so I don't believe in any form of afterlife. That's why I take whatever life can give me, even if it sometimes gives me the hangover from hell :? Knowing that some people think of me as a friend is very nice though :)

What does being an athiest have to do with not believing in an afterlife??? Rhetorical question. Well just don't be shocked that people worry when you do take such risks Kotik. As a matter of fact, it's a sign that you are cared for. A gift life gives that is precious. Be careful that while you're taking what life can give, you're not seeing the deeper gifts it offers.

Koti, the older you get the more you hedge your bets. You will change you r mind when the Grim reaper is actually looking over your shoulder.

Wost Hangoover I eve rhad was off Rum and Coke (Cuba Libras) Thought I was going to die and then was afraid I wouldn't.

I drank but was not an alcholic. Just a drunk. Difference: Alkie needs it a drunk likes it.

You are young. Lots to live left. Why waste it. From what you hve posted you are in to Dressage. You have a good Horse and are entering shows. I think that is great.

You are about to enter middle age. so, time to stop living like a young man because you will find you cannot keep up any more.

I wouldn't be at all ruprsed if you find someone compatible and will tell us soon that you are about to join the ranks of the Married.

That is my sermon for the day

Maybe, but I really think I shouldn't live longer than I'm actually able to enjoy it.

I had a period in my life when I drank heavily. Thankfully I had friends who kicked my arse into a mental clinic, where my clinical depression was diagnosed and properly taken care off. As a result of that, I learned to enjoy the few times, I'm indulging myself, while staying away from the stuff most of the time.

I'm not entering myself. I tried riding last year, but I kept falling off as my coordination skills aren't up to the job. But I'm choreographing routines and that has met some success. But the riding is actually a good example. Everybody said that I'm crazy for trying to learn to ride at 35, because it's much harder to learn and the danger of falling down is greater. But I still did it, because it was fun. But when people started worrying, I gave it up again.

If I was living like a young man, I'd still be playing stupid drinking games or bounce around in the snow at -37°C after a binge drinking session in the banya  And by the way, I think I can still keep up at many things. I don't last longer than a few songs in the mosh pit, before needing a break, but at the end of an 8 hour concert, almost all, who remain standing are usually well past 30, because most of the young folks are lying around by the sidelines, because they drank hard stuff like horses, but can only hold it like a pony.

Very unlikely, but that's a very personal topic.

Hmmm... the last thing I'm going to say on the topic is, as long as you know your limits, that's all that matters.

Know what you mean about the live as long as you can enjoy life part though. For some reason I've never been able to envision myself as an old lady. I know, logically, that I will grow older, but I just can't picture myself being old....

Hey, that's always a shock. Who the hell put the wrinkles and age spots on that lady in the mirror? WTF is that about???

My 76-year-old great aunt once told me that inside she never felt she was really a day over 16.

My problem with getting older is I have too much time to think about it. No job because of the CP, no man to worry about constantly, and no kids to chase after. So I'm actually aware of it more. I probably wouldn't realize the passage of time if I was able to be consumed with life stuff. But again the CP puts a damper on that. It doesn't help that my younger sisters are all married and some are popping out babies.

Men have one thing on their side, they don't have an expiration date on fertility. Look at Rod Stewert. If they choose to have kids later in life, no biggie.

aadarshdinah. When young we are all immortal. I could not see myself as old. But today I wear two haring aids. False teeth, am balding. Having problems walking, Live in fear of Dementia, I have no depth perception although I wear glasses. No sense of smell (can and have stood by an open septic tank and could not smeall anything) Have diabetes so must watch carefully what I eat at all times. Cannot eat the things I dealy loved (Like Lemon Pie, not the sugar freee stuff which sucks) NO Chocolate (Just sugar free (which isn't the same) My mind is still good but as I say I live in fear of dementia. I walk like an old man too often (I shuffle because I have problems walking) so I trip over things like loose rugs. I am blind on one eye so I cannot read or watch TV of use the computer for very long because my one good eye gives out too soon. Did I expect this when I was young? NO.

As it is my Doctor says I am in good heath for my age.

What is the saying "Youth is wasted on the young."

It is strange how one clings to life even if it isn't exactly fun.

"Tired of Living and scared of Dying"
I am Retired. Having a good time IS my job
