^ omg

random:

So, yay me. At work, six months ago, my boss gave me a new task (in addition to my regular ones). We had this HUGE backlog of patients with notes in their computer file saying they were supposed to be called (like 3+ yrs worth) for this and that and the other thing. It's referred to as the "recall list" and it is the bane of every dental office in the world. Some offices are on top of their list, many are not. We were not. The lady whose job it was just wasn't doing it. She left, and so I've been wrestling this massive beast for SIX months! Every time I didn't actually have a denture in my hand, I was on the phone, basically kinda "telemarketing".

They all decided I was the one who was good at it, and so that was it. The other girls in the office are all timid with cold calls and they go, "Um, hi? Mr. Smith? Um, well, it's the denture clinic calling? Um, are your teeth fine? Oh they are? Oh good. Okay. Well...bye." But we're supposed to get them in every year for at least a check up, and most people need their false teeth relined every few years so they don't get too loose, so they should come in for that. But they just don't come in on their own unless something hurts or is broken.

So *I* call with GUSTO! (I'm sure you can't picture that).

"HI! This is JEN from the DENture clinic! How are those teeth treating you Mr. Smith? I bet they're getting a bit loose as we haven't seen you in 3 years! Oh, really? We can't have that! Well how about you come in day after tomorrow and we just tighten them on up for you? We had a cancellation, and I think it's got your name on it! Great! Can wait to see you then! All right! Bye! "

Boom. $650.

I hang up and go "See? You don't ask, you tell. You politely tell them to come in." The other girls are like  .

So anyhow, today..........*cue sensational music* I FINISHED THE LIST! ALL 1000'S OF NAMES! TOOK ME SIX SOLID MONTHS. ALL CONTACTED, TIDIED UP, SHELVED AWAY! YEEE-HAH!

My mac goes just fine. It's one of the early G5s. Its nickname is The Tank because of what it can withstand and what it weighs. You don't want to know what this thing has been though. Lets just say male cat with behavioral issues. Of course I never vacuumed its insides either. :raspberry:

Oh and why no Spot? This post could really use a Spot. I vote for the Abyssinian.

I've never met you, but even I can't imagine you calling any other way. :)

Two thoughts occurred to me after your story:

If you've spent six months on the old list, doesn't that mean you have another six months worth waiting for you now? :bitch:
Your commission on all that repeat business is going to be awesome! :happyjump:

EK the telemarketer. Hmmm.

 OMG. I think I'm gonna have nightmares!

;-)

But you realize now that you should ask for a raise, right? Or a commission, like cogito said. Too bad medical practices generally don't work like used car lots.

That's what I was gonna say. I *should* get commission, but then you tread into that whole sticky medical morality/ethics crap. Alas. I just make sure I "happen" to mention everytime someone *I* reeled in spends some big bucks, so when bonus/pay review time comes around, maybe that'll help. I even call it fishing. "I'm going fishing," I say and the staff knows I am about to climb into my seamy little windowless office, swap my soul for a headset and telemarket those poor old people. :^P Oh well. At least I'm getting paid 3x more than I was when I was a telemarketer.

My very 1st job at 17 was in fact telemarketing carpet cleaning out of a light industrial complex. I lasted 6 months and that was only cause it was my first job and I didn't want to look like a quitter after only 3 months. HOrrible horrible times. Horrible. Sooo many horrible stories, I can't believe it was only 6 months.

Actually, Cogito, I kept up with the current recalls while also smacking the old ones out of the park. 8)

(God I can't believe the things that become "cool" once you're old and have a job and no life. God.)

Jen (may I call you that) if you say you have no life then there will never be hope for mine. So with all due respect, bite your tongue! Not literally of course because that would hurt.

So nobody is going to mention Elizabeth Taylor passed away?

 okay okay, you're right.... but it's just such a tiny little windowless room - and the list is so long!

That's sad about Elizabeth Taylor. She had quite the career.

You know as beautiful as she was, and the Photo at people.com is breath taking... She is more well known today for her husbands and perfume. In reality she was an amazing actress! I mean truly, there were quite a few roles that she had where she made people like Merel Streep look like amatures. A personal favorite of mine is her role in Taming Of The Shrew she was on par with any Shaksperian actor I've ever seen. Her Husband/Costar Richard Burton once said in an interview...

"No I didn't need to teach her anything. She only asked me for help with one line... I only had to tell her once. The rest she did on her own."

God if only they hadn't been so messed up.

You know what else I find incredible, throughout all the drama of her life she must have been a good mother. Not one of her kids has ever spoken a bad word about her. Compare that with "Mommy Dearest" believe me on the morals scale Joan Crawford was much more outragious.

My faviorite quote from Ms. Taylor has always been "I married every single man I ever slept with, how many actresses can say that?"

Besides if Debbie Renyolds can call her a friend and visit her in the hospital and Carrie Fischer can say good things about her, maybe the world can start remembering "Elizabeth Taylor" and not the vamp "Liz" that the media created.

I mostly don't know or care about the private lives of entertainers. Don't know or care who's married to who for how long or who's sleeping with who or who lost or gained weight or had plastic surgery, etc, etc... It just doesn't matter to me, so I can't say I'm more than vaguely familiar with any details of the Liz Taylor scandals that WarpGirl references in her post.

Despite that, I find what WarpGirl has written here to be a sensitive and incredibly moving tribute to a fine actress.

Well said, WG. Well said!
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

            Like I said I am a classic film nut. And for anyone who really cares about film Elizabeth Taylor is criminally underated for her abilities as a performer today. Cleopatra is often mocked now, and Ms Taylor hated the final cut. But her performance was quite Brilliant in it. I've always wished the full version could be restored, something she said would have made her proud as an actor. I'm sorry, I guess I never really knew how much I admired her talent until now.

Piece of Personal Trivia.

Once rented some Egyptian constumes. The one I got for my Girlfriend (Now wife) was Elibabeth Taylor's costume from Cleopatra. (Had her name on the inside of each part, Top and Bottom) Fit perfectly.
