Nicholas Cage named his son Kal-El. He has my vote to win the prize for uber-nerdliness.

I fully expected this to be a wind-up, but ...

I call it an act of cruelity not uber-neardiness. Why should a hobbie (or unhealthy obsession) wreck your kid's life. School for that kid is going to be a nightmare. And by school I mean college when it must mix with ordinary people and not the Apple's and Pylot Inspeckters of LA LA Land.

He's the son of rich and famous parents. School is going to be a blast for him, no matter what he's named. But I do wonder at the mindset of parents who thought that was a reasonable choice of name. I suppose there comes a point where you can afford to simply ignore what anybody else might think.

Parents... Maybe. But what about the kid? And I mean this in general nobody specific. I hardly think it's fair that a kid should be saddled with the noteriety of their parents. They can't make the choice for themselves. If I were stuck with such a name I'd be in therapy the rest of my life. Again I say poor kid, imagine if he's not keen on comics at all let alone Superman.

There are other ways to celebrate your neardliness. Like legally changing your own name to OBI-WAN KENOBIE. That is something I can applaud! :tears:

Moon Unit and Dwezil Zappa seem to be doing OK. Given how screwed up many celebrity families are, a whacky name is probably the least of Kal El's problems. Though, it does sound like a good name if you're in line to take over N. Korea.

In a true note of randomness -- I had pan fried catfish for dinner with my folks in central Florida tonight and would like to report that 1) I'm with Trip that it's my favorite meal, and 2) Putaro, you were right -- some hush puppies really can be eaten in one bite, at least by a big strapping guy like Trip. (Personally, I'd still fear choking before I got the whole yummy thing chewed and swallowed.)

It's freaking cold down here, but since it's even more freaking cold at home and it's not like I came down here to lie on the beach, it's fine.
OMG, ANOTHER new chapter! NORTH STAR Chapter 28

That's so funny you remember that (Alelou beta'd a scene where I had Trip popping hush puppies in his mouth)!

A few years ago an elementary school teacher in Southern California wrote to Reader's Digest about a kid on the first day of school with 'Fruit Stand' on his name tag. (Weird, but we *are* talking Southern California.) Other than having an odd name, Fruit Stand was a quiet and well behaved kid. After school, she put the kids on their buses and flipped their name tags so the bus driver would know where they got off. Fruit Stand's bus stop was 'Johnny'.

But my favorite odd name is from my Cousin, who's a vice principle for a school in Arkansas. She had a student with a three syllable name, pronounced shi - THEE - add

It is spelled 'Shithead'

No-joke, God's-honest-truth. Her name is Shithead.
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.
