Well, I don't believe sitcoms can be more expensive to produce than a scifi show like Star Trek or Terra Nova for that matter ... at least not in the early years, before the show is a certified hit and the stars can start demanding big bucks. A show built around a big name star might have that as its initial central expense, I'll grant you -- but it had better deliver great ratings, or it's history.

If we're talking Dr Who now ... yeah, maybe that would be cheaper to produce than a sitcom.

Very good point Kotik. I still can't believe that they flat out repeated episodes that had already been done before! They wasted precious oppertunities to be creative and re-charge the creative batteries. Did they really have to do episodes like The Communicatior and Dawn? Did they really need to waste their production budget on Princess Fishstick? No they didn't. That was poor decision making, AND with the exception of Dawn crappy writing.

Alelou Charlie Sheen's former salery probably made up half of ENT special effect budget or more.

Argh! This would have been so awesome! :bitch:

Even I would have gone to Las Vegas for that, and that's a place I've never, ever wanted to see.

Now if Disney could run with that idea, it might even find a home where it would last instead of falling into ruin eventually. They could definitely use something new for Epcot, which has hardly changed at all since it was first built.

When we're shouting at the wind like this, I find myself wondering what would happen if the money and marketing effort that was spent on Enterprise was put into something like Lerteiran Chronicles. With the same production quality, the right actors but most importantly a great plot and storyline with great characters and meaningful character development, wouldn't that be something?

So, on the subject of fan service, did anyone actually find those "cat suits" attractive? I didn't think they looked good on Troi, nor on 7 of 9 and T'Pol's was like a pair of granny panties as far as I'm concerned. As far as eye candy goes, the TOS mini skirts were the best in my opinion.

Not very helpfully, I'm thinking "leg man?"

I ain't a man so I'm not a good judge of this, but I've never thought cat suits looked good on women either. Even if the actress is appropriately fit and curvy, it's such a pinched, molded look, like a cheap action figure.

My favorite T'Pol outfit is the one she wore in North Star. Not very practical on a starship. There was something very attractive about that blouse, though. She looked good in a leather jacket in "Carpenter Street," too. Maybe this just means I like T'Pol dressing Human? That ugly tunic in "Breaking the Ice" didn't do anything for her either. Vulcan robes looked nice on Jolene. And the wedding dress, of course. (You have to wonder what the hell happened to Vulcan fashion by the time T'Pring came along, but maybe she purposely chose the ugliest wedding dress EVER.)

Okay I'm bringing this back to Randomness Anyone who doesn't cry while watching To Kill A Mockingbird has absolutely no soul!

About the catsuits, what made T'Pol's rediculous was that it didn't fit with the character, or Vulcan culture at all. Troi's were okay, but when she finally got a real uniform that's when she looked HOT. Kira I never cared about, Dax (both of them were lovely), 7of9 actually made sense because as a BORG she never wore clothes at all! That said it was a nightmare for poor Miss Ryan, so she deserves sympathy and compassion! The costume designer who made the corset (which was supposed to simulate BORG implants) was brutal. And the shoes she was forced to wear didn't help.

That said the only woman ever to rock a cat suit on TV and totally own it was Julie Newmar!

I think poor Weeble accidently hit the PM button instead of the reply button. So here it is...
Weeble wrote:I'm stupid so I will way in. The problem with T'Pol's outfits was putting her in heeled boots. You can't friggin' run or fight in 'em so they don't make sense. She should have worn the jumpsuit starting in season 3. just like everyone else. from a male perspective you know she's a knock-out so why push it. Subtle works fine.

i think the "new" ST movie concept is stupid. kill it. I like to think that something like the Lerterian Chronicles is the next proper move. Its AU and not AU at the same time. Don't want to PO anyone but please don't bring back Archer other than as a triumphant figure with no lines. I still maintain the key to ST from TOS to ENT was that the successful series and movies were optimistic. Archer was not. He did not have any humility in him, and his character wasn't attractive. It just shouted no way. Kirk, Picard, Sisko were all believable. Janeway and Archer not so much.

Back into my hole....

I like the ST movie, it's not the same but I do love that New Sulu and Checkov.

It's interesting to see the different perspectives on things when it comes to VOY and ENT. For instance, I don't really much care for Jeri Taylor's writing or influence on writing. Invariably, episodes she penned tended to be about how awesome Janeway was, and as a way of showing that she had to always be right about everything.

Honestly, looking back on those shows, I don't much care for them. As for why I'm here and all that, well, I guess I saw some potential there. Done right, as in sticking to their premises, they could have both been excellent shows. But since that isn't what happened, I guess I just don't think much of them.

As for fan service, I really wished they'd saved that more for "off duty" type stuff. Those characters should have been dressed more professionally, IMO, or at least what passed for it on the shows in that they'd wear something closer to what their male counterparts were wearing. That goes for the TOS miniskirts, too. Frankly that's one of the things I sound to be slightly misogynistic about Abrams Trek - because not only did all the women wear tall boots and miniskirts, but they didn't even have sleeves to put their rank on. How better to show that the women are only there to be drooled at. ;)

Actually, I thought T'Pol looked at her very cutest during the mutiny when she was sneaking around in a standard starfleet uniform complete with cap.

This is what irks me about it the most. Whoever came up with that catsuit idea must have thought that people would disengage their brain and remain frozen infront of the TV drooling and staring at Jolenes bum.
There was one moment in season two - the faux interrogation of the alien thug in "Precious Cargo", when T'Pol enters the room in that Vulcan robe. Now that was a real "Whoa Nelly!" moment. She looks stunning in that scene. Those catsuits in the first two season looked like she had been rolling around on the floor of Abdul Martin's carpet shop :banghead:

And now for something completely random...

We went to the Tama Zoo outside Tokyo today and took a ride on the Lion Bus that I thought I should share.

The bus drives around inside a fairly large pit with lots of lions in it.
Image

Why, you might wonder, do the lions come right up to the bus?

Image

Because they hang meat on the outside! They put more meat on each time the bus comes back for another load of sardines...passengers.

Image

I think this is as close as I ever want to get to a lion while it is eating...or doing anything else for that matter.
