Re: Trip's Mistakes
Yeah and it might have started something terrible. And that's the point. Trip can't "fly above" when it comes to First Contact. That is BAD!
Some of these people haven't taken their medication. Let's see what happens now...

Re: Trip's Mistakes
Your feelings and your ideas are not mine. Sometimes someone has to break rules.
FOR CHANGES. For changes, damnit!
Regardless consequences.
Because of that, I think in this episode Trip glows greater than in many other episodes. He think of justice, of rightness. He doesn't act as an ordinary, stupid, laggard man.
Rules? How have we to act when they bar progress?

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Re: Trip's Mistakes
Standing up for truth and justice does not mean lying and sneaking around. There are proper ways to bring about change without risking innocent lives in ANY volitile First Contact situation.

And that's fine, I'm just saying that there's more to the issue than the Vissians being wrong.

Re: Trip's Mistakes
Warpgirl, you keep insisting that there was Danger. There was not and there was never any prersented in the episode.
the vissens accepted that trip had taught Charles and that Charles had changed because of it. They wer saddened but they never, ever, shoed an attack mode. Enterprise was never in any danger from the Vissens.
Trip did not sneak around. He asked t-Pol, and Phlox about Charles and the third sex.
when he brought charles to his cabin he was not sneaky about it. He invited charles to liisten to music and to play go. Afterward charles returned to his own ship.
I believe that Trip did what any decent human being with compassioon and moral courage would do. I am proud of him.
Trip did not expect Charles to take his own life and was just as surprised and hurt by it as anyone. Had he known that Charles would commit suicide he probably would not have started teaching him or showing Charles that a better life could be had..
I wish I could tell you of a time when the handicapped wre mocked, shunned, deliberately mislead. When people would do a crazy dance and make faces in front of a handicapped person and call that person a dummy or worse.
When there were people born with a cleft lip that in those days was imperfectly closed so they spoke with a pronounced burr. It was mocked, crudely imitated. they had cruel jokes played on them.
If anyone objected to such treatement of those handicapped people then the objector would be turned on and paid the price for objecting.
the handicaped? what did they want? to be accepted, to be regarded as just another person to have friends not to have people mocking them. what had the Handicapped people done?Nothng but be born with a probem that was none of their doing and that they wished they never had.
It was a cruel, cruel, time. too many people stood by and did nothing.
it is said that bad things happen when good people do nothiing.
Trip was a good person he tried to do something to correct an injustice.
The others were content to go along with the status quo. "that is the way it is."
The world and by extension the Galaxy changes when someone like trip offers a hand to one in need.

Re: Trip's Mistakes
OK don't bring people who are disabled into it. You have NO IDEA how much I know about that. I am going to say this ONE more time and then I give up. During ANY First Contact there are extreme risks. During Cogenitor the Vissians are a peaceful people, sure. BUT if they hadn't been lives could have been lost. I DON'T CARE if the Vissians were peaceful. Trip's actions were wrong for the situation. I agree that helpin the cogenitor was right. HOW HE DID IT WAS WRONG! Now I'm tried of this, you're not listening, and obviously you won't discuss alternatives, I'm done.

Re: Trip's Mistakes
Then we agree to disagree.
We are looking at it from different perspectives.
The handicapped thing was just an anology I belied you would understand
My point of it was that good people stood by and allowed those things to happen but had they simply stepped in and stopped it the people doing that would never do it again.
There was a case in New York decades ago. A woman was attacked and she yelled for help. Her atttacker ran away when she yelled. seeing that no one came out to aid her he came back and attacked her again. She once more yelled. this time people stuck their heads out of windows and shouted for her to shut up and stop yelling The attacker ran away when the people stuck thier heads out of the windows. Once more he came back knowing that she would receive no help. He attacked and finally killed her. It took a half hour for all of this to take place.
when asked by the police why they did nothing all of the people said that they "didn't want to get involved." a typical New York answer.
she could have been saved if anyone had come out and helped her inside the building and called the police. Another example of peoplle standing by while bad things hapen.
You live in the world you ARe involved. Abidciating involvement ss why the world is so bad.
Trip was a good person who got involved. I apppauld hm for that. He did not go about it wrong as the others would not have helped him. He had no choice but go it alone. Okay that is my last word on it too.
Peace?

Re: Trip's Mistakes
Peace. Just remember I didn't say Trip should do nothing. Now someone, anyone, find a new mistake. I'm sick of trying to think them all up. We need a begging smiley

Re: Trip's Mistakes
Trip probably made a number of mistakes. But may be forgiven some of them
because he really didn't understand T-Pol as welll as he should have. However, he also made some mistakes that did not concern T-Pol. One was with the Princess in Cargo. Should have spent the night on the other side of the fire.
BTW, posted answer to your last comment. Also seems I received a comment
from anonymous. Evidently person has taken a dislike to me.
Hope you are well.
It sure is quiet in here today.

Re: Trip's Mistakes
People will come back when they think of something to say. Sometimes it's natural to have a dry spell, especially after a period of extreme busyness.

I wouldn't call 68 pages discussing Trips mistakes a "dead" thread
