Traditional Cajun dances are couple oriented... the waltz, two step, that sort of thing. There are childhood games that are remnants of medieval dances, though. When I was in high school I studied the Cajun culture in French class. One of the games they taught us was a "circle game" to a chant. It's not precisely a dance, but you walk in a circle to the chant, which is about spring coming soon, and change partners. It resembles a medieval bransle (pronounced "brawl") or circle dance, and I was taught that at the time when it was popular dancing was frowned upon between mixed couples, so young people would make a circle alternating boy/girl and dance that way. It was mostly done in the winter months since they were too busy working to dance at other times, thus the words about "spring coming soon". I'm not sure of the spelling, but this is how I remember it goes.
Avenne, avenne, aven-ne
Que le printemps ramenne. (This is chanted or sung and the circle moves to the left six steps)
Avenne, avenne, aven-ne
Que le printemps ramenne. (to the right)
On se repo-se comme ceci et comme cela (jump forward at "ceci" and back at "cela")
Tappez les pieds (stomp feet 4 times)
Tappez les mains (clap hands 4 times)
Faites un p'tit tour chez le voisin. (turn to the right and switch places with your neighbor)
Then you do it again, ad nauseum.
