Since I'm a bit under the weather I've been watching a fair bit of Stargate SG1 the last few days. (Love the SG1 page at All U C.) I watched 6x8 "The Other Guys" just now and John Billingsley guest starred. He was fantastic, and the episode was awesome. I checked and it aired Aug. '02 so he was playing Phlox at the time, but his character is a Trekkie. So the episode had a couple of great Trek moments. "We might as well be wearing red shirts."

Plus, I could identify with his character (except the math part): "I'm not a soldier! I teach applied math at Yale, I ride a Vespa and I have two cats!" Billingsley is really a good comedic actor.

I LOVE THAT EPISODE! LOVE IT!

As John Billingsley said, talking about "Bounty"... he asked the writers why they had to leave it so vague in the end as to whether T'Pol and Phlox got it on... and they said "because he's [Phlox] is a professional, he wouldn't let that happen..." to which he replied, "WHY NOT?!"

He's not a doctor, though. He just plays one on TV. So he's allowed to ask why not, and it's a legitimate question. Over the course of the series Phlox's character did a whole host of things which would not be considered ethical by current medical standards. Why should this situation be any different? He would be providing the treatment needed to save her life. And should Phlox, as a Denobulan, be confined to the restrictions of the Hippocratic oath, which after all is a completely human invention?

Meh. Nauseated maybe, and not really by the idea of having sex with a patient. Although there's never a justification for it in real life, there's also no non-fictional potentially fatal condition for which sex is the life-saving treatment. It's just, well... no offense to Mr. Billingsley, but the way they've made up the character... and the toenails... and the creepy smile... and Jolene's character is so gorgeous in contrast... it's just... ewww.

If I had to choose the bigger Phlox creep-out it would be the whole mimetic simbiont thing. He could bang as many patients as he wanted in the decon chamber for all I care. That Sim thing was whacked from the jump.

Totally agree with this assessment.

People here remember what was the treatment for women "anxiety" in the 19th and first part of the 20th century, don't you? Something like "pull up the dress, open your legs..."

Yep hung out with them all of the time. Really they might love tea parties, but what they don't tell you is that the "tea" is really single malt whiskey. That's why it has to be between 4-5. And dinner is at eight so you can sleep it off. Thankfully they had all that food to help it along. Why you haven't?

Yeah well, I went to a lot of school myself, and when I couldn't I taught myself. What do you teach? I like teachers. Except the ones who tell me what I should think and believe and how I should think and believe anything they teach me. Awful college history professor who made my semester miserable...
