What is it with Vulcans and orchids?

Just what it says on the tin.

Is it all because of Tuvok?

It's flavored with passionfruit
an appropriate ingredient, don't you think?

There is something about Vulcans and orchids? Clueless me has missed that. Are there some canon references that I should be remembering?
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

Well, Tuvok raised prize orchids, crossing Vulcan and Earth varieties. Neelix grew orchids for salad.
ShouldKnowBetter had a nasty virus spread by importing orchids to Vulcan, and also had Soval's aide be an orchid fancier.
I assume orchid names like "Vulcan" and "Khan" are taken from Trek...

Emberchyld pulls out her copy of "Orchids, A Practical Handbook" (Seriously. I'm addicted to orchids, especially the poor little Phal that I haven't managed to kill yet)

First, it's the largest family of flowering plants on Earth (25,000-30,000 species, inc vanilla, with some 100,000 man-made hybrids)-- the chances of aliens picking a plant to cultivate that is indigenous to Earth being an orchis is pretty high.
They're hearty, adaptable plants (and proven by the fact that my black thumb hasn't killed mine yet!) that probably would take well to the Vulcan planet.
They have a sparse beauty, and successfully growing/flowering the plant takes very well rewarded effort (as proven by the fact that my orchid hasn't flowered in... 3 years)

And, I do think, considering that Vulcans were loosely based on Far Eastern cultures, the appearance of orchids in Asian art probably hasn't hurt.

Just my thoughts
