Which Would T'Pol Prefer--Natural or Artificial?

Now T'Pol...she's harder to judge. What does everyone think here?

I don't know what that means. You are being too subtle.

There are lot of possibilties between natural and more or less artificial. You can take hormones, you can take hormones plus use the tube and let the child grow in your womb. Or maybe this is not possible for Trip and T'Pol and they are forced to use a cilinder of something like that and have to deal with this. It's rather difficult to have a child growing outside the womb. It could well be that they don't care what kind of technique is used, as long as the child is created from her egg and his semen. Are there risk of miscarriages and are they ready to deal with them? And difficult pregnancies can take on toll on yourself and your relationship. Just some thoughts you can take into account.

Are you talking assisted by technology=artificial?

I'd think T'Pol would want to do whatever it took to make sure the baby was healthy. Preferably natural (she and/or Trip treated with hormones, extreme monitoring of the baby in her womb, extended bed rest, etc.), but if artificial means were necessary, I think she'd see the logic in it.

Yes, absolutely, T'Pol would do the logical thing for the health of the baby - and Trip would do the same. These are people of science, after all.

I don't think T'Pol would object to doing it the old fashioned way - but it's safe to assume she would do whatever was right for the child.

What do you mean here? Natural conception? Natural childbirth?

I agree that T'Pol would do whatever was necessary to get a healthy baby.

I don't know about T'Pol, but Jolene opted for artificial when she got her boob job... :raspberry:

Oh, was that not what you meant!? Never mind...

I would think logic and practicality would have to be the deciding factors. If she were to have extended bedrest, several procedures or risk her or the babies health I think she'd go artificial.

I think the same thing I said in the Trip thread. She'd just do whatever would do whatever got them the healthiest and sanest outcome. Whether or not that serves the story you want to tell is another thing.

  Thanks to all for commenting and allowing me to think through this logically. I believe the most common opinion was that unless it would seriously harm T'Pol, there wouldn't be a problem with her carrying the child.

So for the purposes of my story, I've decided:

A) T'Pol will carry the child to term.
B) Phlox will need to perform an in-vitro fertilization so that he can tinker will the zygote to ensure Trip's sperm combines in just the right way with T'Pol's egg as to create a stable, growing lifeform. Through this process, he can also ensure that the zygote's biology is similiar enough to Vulcan biology that T'Pol's immune system won't treat the zygote as a foreign body and attack it.

I agree.
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

In my copy of Star Trek Encyclopedia, while thumbing through it. I came across a Species that had Copper/Iron blood. I wish I could find it again but there are so dmaned many Species that just have a small paragraph and noting more. pages off them. My vision is so poor that I miss much these days while reading. Perhaps someone else with better vision and a Star Trek Enclodpeida can fid it. Mayhaps that Species could be used by Phlox to research how to combine Trip's and T-Pol's bloood in a Baby. Of course there is Spock who had Green blood.

Who in Hell i s knowledteable enough to know weather Iron or copper blood would be better for carrying oxygen to Organs, muscles, etc. That would be important if the Baby lived on Vulcan where the Atmosphere is thnner and Oxygen would be less.
I am Retired. Having a good time IS my job

I found this at Memory Alpha. Check it out:

Several episodes of Enterprise and Voyager reveal that such interspecies breeding was risky, and would most likely fail without medical intervention. One prominent example is that of a Vulcan-Human hybrid such as Spock, who is explicitly stated in 2009's Star Trek motion picture to have been the result of genetic adjustment to allow Amanda to conceive; real physical law indicates that a natural half-Vulcan such as Spock is chemically impossible, because the two species' blood chemistry (copper vs. iron) are biochemically incompatible.

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Human

So we have to suspend our disbelief a little or we couldn't have any fun with Trip and T'Pol having a baby.

Yet more information:

Vulcan/Human Hybrids are impossible unaided, but given the advances in science and genetic engineering shown in Star Trek, it is not that much of a stretch to believe that the copulation between a human and a Vulcan would be impossible.
It was said from the start, that even though Vulcan physiognomy is different from humans, there are similarities such as chromosomes, DNA, RNA, etc. Vulcans have green blood simply because it is copper based, rather than iron based.
