I thought that might be the one. I read the first one. I liked it also. I'll have to check out the second one. Thanks.

Very early this morning I finished Ruth & Boaz: Strangers in the Land by Terri L. Fivash. It was phenomenal. I don't suppose people who aren't Christian or Jewish would enjoy it so much, but it's the best book I've read since The Forged Coupon (a novella by Tolstoy).

Re: Books

Egad, I am getting into Red Mars (recc by JustTripn again darnit). After a sort of slowish beginning, it's being told from a bunch of different points of view. Almost like Sarum on Mars.

I like the few wee anachronisms, or bad guesses about 2026: (the book was written in '93) for example, the astronaut is out on the surface of mars listening to her stereo back at the base playing over her radio headphones. Of course, an astronaut on mars in 2026 would have a terabyte data card in her arm-mounted palm-pilot or whatever. wireless intranet with the home base. iPhone on Mars and whatnot. not stereo piped over radio. lol
But it's really great. Really well-researched without being boring, and really intricate plotline without being confusing.
Yay Ann!

Re: Books
Just finished The Final Reflection, an early ST novel from a Klingon viewpoint. It seems one of the better ST novels. Don't know what I will be reading next, but I am trying to read one non ST novel for each ST novel. But actually I should be concentrating on navigation rules (federal publication) and then go take the test. That, and the boat engine manual, the GPS manual, the loran manual, the boat's radar manual...
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

Re: Books
The Folk of the Air is quite different from The Last Unicorn. More...mythopoetic, as they say over at Endicott Studio (a great place to find reviews of this sort of reading matter, BTW)
Or is is mythopoeic?
Anyway, both are well worth reading, as is Beagle's Fine and Private Place.
There's also some good poetry. This is one of my faves:

It's flavored with passionfruit
an appropriate ingredient, don't you think?
