Not as long as it pays to rip off someone else. ;)

Seriously, that's how the business works anymore. The ones with the money to do it want as much return they can get with as little investment as possible, and that means they'd rather go with something they know worked for someone else instead of something new. I mean, just look at all the prequels that came out after Star Wars Episode I. Even Tremors had one, and Star Trek had one in the form of Enterprise. The idea Berman had for the next movie was a prequel too. And now that BSG and Batman have proven that reboots can be successful, everyone else is going to try the same thing. Hell, if this next movie does prove to be a reboot, I guess in a way its a case of Paramount putting their chips in with both prequels and reboots. I mean, how much better to make money than to go with two things that have worked for other people, right? At least that's the kind of reasoning I can see going into this, and that's why I'm more than a little worried that Moriarty will be proven right. :?

But shit, there is enough back story, and a big enough universe established for Trek now, that they could write new and original stories in there from now until global warming made the pacific ocean rise up and cleanse LA from the Earth. They don't NEED to steal from what has already been done. What they are doing is fan fiction, and charging people huge dollars to watch or read it. Crap. At least here we don't claim to be doing anything except playing in someone else's sandbox.

It's Hollywood. They don't do anything that makes sense there.

That should be plastered on billboards everywhere to explain some of the rampant stupidity that comes out of the Left Coast. I mean, I read that, based on how well Transformers did in the theaters, they are seriously trying to make a live action Thundercats movie.

Thundercats.

That says everything you need to know about Hollywood, doesn't it?

They made a Flintstones movie with live characters. What more can be said?

^If that's where trek is going, I want out.

I think if they had done this years ago (like Pre-Voyager era) I'd probably be thrilled about the idea just because back then the idea of rebooting something was fresh. Now it's just overkill. Even back then, I think Star Trek had enough back story to pull it off. The problem is that Trek has a tendency to offer "too little too late."

I don't know guys. I will just ignore the hype and conjecture and go see the damn movie when it comes out. Then I will do my griping...or not.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

If a movie doesn't appeal to me, then I don't go see it. As it stands right now, the stuff coming out about this movie doesn't appeal to me so there's a strong likelihood I won't go see the "damn movie."

Especially if time travel is involved.

I'm still in wait and see mode.

I'm not sure what I think of this movie at this point.
