Hey Prisocisor, I love that pond! Looks like a very peaceful place. And I am loving everyones photos.

Some of my photo links earlier in this thread have disappeared. I went to photobucket and found the photos gone. Guess there is a limit on number of photos you can have there and some sort of time limit on them? I knew may good relations with photobucket wouldn't last!

That sounds very odd!

I have used Photobucket for years and the memory space is very large, and no time limits. I have yet to see any photos disappear (ImageShack is another story). :?

I think a dock will be an immediate addition ;) Imagine waterfront with no dock... Sacrilege!

So glad you like the pond Linda: it's a darling little 18 acre lake by the name of Florence :)

From my trip to Portugal. Most of the week was spent hanging out at my grandmom's house and eating (a lot) with random relatives, but since my little sister brought her boyfriend, we did try to take him to a feeeeew nice places:

First, Lisbon-- where we saw a creative street busker:

Emberchyld at a window in the Torre de Belem (this was taken a a lucky moment when the gale force winds weren't blowing the wind in my face):

On another day, at Batalha, there was this tomb:

Aaaaaawwwww. This seemed to be a fairly common theme in royal tombs... holding hands for eternity. (lets ignore the whole arranged marriage thing back then... and the fact that most of those were loveless/political things... but there were still some amazing love stories-- just look up Ines de Castro... that's an amazing story and tomb)

A wider shot of the "unfinished chapel" where the tomb is located. Below the entrance is the group of French tourists. (no matter where I went, there were French people. I can't avoid them anywhere!)

And on the same day, we went to a walled castle city called Obidos. Here, Emberchyld shows a complete lack of self-preservation as she scales the castle walls (I was so regretting my choice in outfit and wishing I had either a: worn a nice flowy dress or b: bought a set of wooden swords to stage a mock sword fight on the castle walls).

Annnd... those are the highlights...

While we were there, a very creative tourist decided to climb up to one of the higher towers and unfurled a flag with a coat of arms and his last name on it. We giggled as he posed for a picture atop "his" castle.

There are quite a few medieval reenactments in the castles in Portugal, most famously at the castle in Santa Maria da Feira during August. I'm planning on stuffing my gown into a spare suitcase one year and heading out to be a part of the feast, if I can get cheap plane tickets (fat chance in August...).

Yes, indeed. Ahem.

You are "speaking" with THL Christine Forester of the Shire of Trollfen, within the Kingdom of Gleann Abhann. I am the Minister of Children within my shire. My lord husband is THL Wulfram Forester, Kingdom Rapier Marshall and Lord High Admiral of Gleann Abhann. (Isn't it silly? )

BTW... THL= "The Honorable Lord/Lady. It's a title indicating the recipient of a Award of Arms (AOA) by the King or Queen of one's kingdom, given for "service" to the kingdom, and technically making one a "royal", entitled to bear arms in the presence of the king/queen if you wear any (I don't. I'm more of an embroidery sort of girl than a swordswoman, although many women DO fight in the SCA.). In my case, it's because I herd the rugrats so everyone else can play. In my husband's case, it's because he makes sure everyone follows the rules on the rapier field so no one gets hurt and the SCA doesn't get sued. 8)

I have a few friends in the SCA and sort of hung around the edges of it quite a few years ago. But when I was beginning to get seriously interested in it, I ran afoul of a couple of obnoxios people who were self -styled experts on things historical. They seemed to take great pride in putting me down for my seeming lack of knowledge of things medieval. That put me off, especially since I was right about a particular pronounciation of the name of a certain musical instrument because I owned and played one. They insisted on their own (and misinformed) view. Now most people in the SCA are great! It is unfortunate that I ran into the wrong ones. Recently, however, I have given a workshop in straw weaving a couple of years running at the Boar's Head Feast, a local SCA event. A great time is had by all there, but I am just to involved in too many other things to join the local shire.

Well, the pointy ears were surgically altered so the female Vulcan anthropologist would fit in. The communicator is placed where it is, for a fast beam out should the natives become suspicious of this attractive stranger. So far, she has not pinpointed the state of technological development. There do appear to be patroleum powered vehicles on the periphery of the encampment, but the weapons seem to be from a pre-industrial era. All this is rather confusing for our poor Vulcan ethnologist!
