25 February 2153. The 25th of February holds special significance for Jonathan Archer. Something happened that forged him into the man his is, but haunts his soul.

I finally got around to reviewing this...

I liked it a lot. It did a hell of a better job at explaining Archer's behavior and motivations than the original show. Well done! But I still think he behaved like a total ass in the beginning and also in previous episodes.

Having Trip narrate the backstory was extremely well done. I liked that it was T'Pol that prompted him initially and that the listening crowd grew (nice bit about him acknowledging to her that she doesn't like crowds). Overall very good TnT here.

I see that you "stole" the Archer/Hernandez on the mountain thing from Home, but it worked. I liked the fact that she decided she couldn't handle his behavior and walked away. I wonder if they'll meet up later in the series. I kinda hope so.

Nice showing of Jeffries there. I kept waiting for him to turn up and he did!

I do wonder what T'Pol's loss has been (her "vacant" look as she talked to Trip in the corridor)? Her father?

A question, we hear Soval mentioning the Tzenkethi and Nausicaans, and then Henry Archer mentions the Kzinti and Nausicaans. So are those the same species but with "Kzinti" just an abbreviation? I understand that Kzinti was from Larry Niven and used in TAS, but for copyright reasons TPTB didn't want to after that. So later Treks talked about Tzenkethi, which may or may not have been intended to be the Kzinti.

I'll give this ep a grade of 8+.

All I can do is say that hatred tends to make people into asses. Would it give you hope to know that he's going to be faced with it further on down the road?

I always wanted to see him too, because it made for a good in-universe source of the name for the Jeffries tubes.

Provided the show survives that long, this will come up in Season 2.

"Tzenkethi" is the official name and "Kzinti" is more of a slang term derived from the name of their planet, but it refers to the same people.

Pretty good for an episode redux.

You know, this really, really sucks. My entire staff has apparently disappeared. I've seen them post in other forums, but one or both of my co-EPs have apparently completely lost interest in Star Trek or at the very least this project. A guest writer I was having write 1x14 for me disappeared a month ago and I haven't seen him online anywhere since. Another guy who joined the staff and started writing 1x19 got deployed this spring, and though he said he'd try to keep working on the episode, I haven't seen him since his last post in April, and he hasn't been online since June. Everyone new I've recruited apparently lose interest as soon as they register at the development forum. I can barely get myself to write, and I don't even have something as basic as feedback from my staff. This sucks because we really had a lot of cool ideas for this series, but I have serious doubts as to my ability to carry this project on my own. What sucks even more, is I have no idea who to even talk to this about, so here I am, sharing it all in public.

Feedback I can give you. Story input I can give you. I can even write stories for you, but I am fooked if I will even try to format my stories in screenplay layout.

However if you want feedback/beta services, or anything else that doesn't require me to actually do anything mindnumbing or resemble "work" (I am retired for a reason) then I will be tickled purple to help. reading and spouting off my mouth is not work. Spewing out stories is not work. Complying with someone else's deadlines is stressing inducing, and therefore qualifies as work. Complying with someone else's standards is also stress inducing, and therefore also qualifies as work.

Anything that, by definition, no sane person would pay me for is not a problem.

Of course the bummer there is that I kind of look forward to seeing what your reaction is to a new episode I release. Which is moot if I don't release any more.

I would love to help you CX - as I'm a huge fan of Foundations. I'm just not sure what kinda help I would be. The quality of my writing can be very sporatic - but I'm willing to give it a try.

Perhaps you could send me a sample scene and we'll see how it goes. I really suck at action -- that's the reason a story idea I have is stuck in park. I need an action middle and can't think of one. So some nice dialogue would be good.

Plus, with the hoidays, I'm not sure how much time I can give it. But it sounds like any time is more than you're getting now - so I'm willing to give it a go. And if it's not what you want - I'm good at taking criticism.

I think it is a major improvement. Very nice, IMO.

Looks good. I seem to recall getting a little confused when I first navigated through these but I found this nice and clear.

I would say this is just about as much white type on a black background as I can handle, though. (Drogna's web site kills me.)

That begs a question though, which I really need as much feedback as possible on before making a decision: How many people would actually rather read HTML versions of the episodes rather than the PDFs?

offer both. some people hate pdf's and some love em. They take forEVER to load for some peeps and no time at all for others.

I'd still offer PDFs - they're by far the easiest medium to use for this kind of thing.
