justTripn, I can't compete with you! As much as I love hockey, the thought of chasing a puck around while skating with a stick and trying to think ahead about what I need to do to make the little uck go into the goal is well beyond me. I love watching our pro team (since I'm at their home rink) practice-- such edge control and skill! Awesome picture.

TPoptarts wrote:Whoa Emberchyld I so wish I could figure skate.  Awesome shots

Thanks :D . Y'know, I only started a year and a half ago. And I'm doing our rink's recital number with a little 35 yr old phenom who only started 6 months ago and is giving us all a run for our money. It's never too late  (And you'd have the cool adult sectionals-- the Adult Pacific Sectionals has a few people who work in Hollywood, so apparently the stands tend to fill with very well-known stars cheering on the adult skaters! Eastern sectionals... not so much)

And, like I've said to T'Sara, I soooo envy you highland dancers. That footwork is FAST! (I'll stick with my relatively slow ballet and contemporary) And pretty tartans, too.

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

T'Sara, from a page back, LOL - a comment on dance kilts! Mine is dress white MacNaughten. But I would have to struggle to get into it at this point! Wait a couple of months, though. I'll get back into it. I have lost seven pounds with Weight Watchers and intend to loose 20 more. Uh, maybe I will scan in a photo of me performing in the kilt fifteen years ago. Yeah, I will find a photo and put it up here soon.

You were a dancer too? Golly, I haven't found so many Highland dancers in one place since back in the day! :D

Dress MacNaughton...this one?

Yes! But I would have preferred Dress MacNicol, but it wasn't a "dress white". The group I belonged to wanted a dress white.

My grandparents immigrated from Beith in Ayrshire to New Hampshire in 1913. I can still remember the lovely Scottish accents, but the old folks have all passed on. We still have relatives in Scotland, and I have 'published', well republished a book of poems written by my Great-great-grandfather in 1880. Its kind of a vanity publishing - a friend of mine has a small printing business. The book came over in 1913, was lost, and when found again, I wrote an introduction to it comparing John Nicol (my ancester) to Robert Burns. Nicol, of course, was a Burns wannabe, having lived in the same area of Scotland a hundred years after Burns. His book had been published by the Ayrshire News, originally.

His poems are not half bad, but the only reference I found to him was a citation in the Oxford English Dictionary (that huge historical tome), in a definition for a mining term used in one of John Nicol's poems. Heck, there are more Scots in the rest of the world than there are in Scotland at this point! But the relatives in Scotland had not heard of this book, so I am printing off copies for them in a new addition which includes my introduction and a glossary of 18th and 19th century terms that I put together for them. Even Scots in Scotland don't speak like Burns or Nicol did any more!

Here's what we've been up to. Here's me, my husband, our kids, and WeeTee, a rescued Katrina dolphin, at Dolphin Cay in the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island, Bahamas. We had a marvelous time.

Wee Tee was a stubborn little guy. His trainer kept sending him out for "breaks" when he wouldn't cooperate. At one point she asked her fellow trainer to "remind her again why we have boy dolphins." He was exasperating and obviously VERY spoiled.

The resort was amazing. There were pools scattered around the place full of sea turtles, rays, fish and sharks. Staff members would come out and feed them from time to time, so if you walked the grounds going from water slide to swimming pool to beach to casino to indoor aquarium to gift shop to restaurant to spa to movie theater to library to video game arcade to nightclub to yada yada... periodically you'd come upon a shallow pool where you could just reach out and pet a juvenile manta ray or a sea turtle.
