Got my portfolio back today - the instructor thought it was pretty good, but that while the sex parts of it were tastefully done that the amount of focus I put on them made it skirt close to "soft-core porn territory." :lol: She still liked it though and gave me an A, so I'd say overall I made out pretty well. :)

Soft porn? How does she describe 'soft porn', 'hard porn', and 'erotica'? Sexual activity descriptions that are not exploitative or demeaning to one of the parties, to me is 'erotica'. I think 'erotica' is about equivalent to 'soft porn' - but I am not sure what the official or academic definitions of these things are. And I think the amount of sexual description was well balanced with other elements of the story. So your instructor thinks percentage of the story devoted to sexual description is what puts it in a category? I just thought if a story had any amount of sexual description in a tasteful way with a loving relationship between the characters would be soft porn - which is a valid literary genre, right? 'Hard porn' to me would the exploitative stuff without any real story line. So what is your instructor saying? I am not entirely sure I understand the definitions of these terms as your instructor would define them.

I think it's the fact I pretty much describe every little detail about what they're doing. I've always thought of erotica as "woman porn" anyway, so it doesn't bother me or anything. :lol: My main concern which she also made note of is that it tends to get a bit repetative, and I can only think of only so many tasteful terms to use because frankly I have a pretty dirty mind :twisted: and that's what I'm trying to avoid delving into for my writings here. If I wrote what actually came to mind first, that'd probably be what most people would consider hardcore and I doubt many people here would read it.
