I SAW THE FIRST STAR TREK XI TEASER!!!

Postby Elessar » Sun Jan 20, 2008 5:44 am

HOLY CRAP!!!!

It was at the beginning of "Cloverfield", which is also by the way, an amazing movie. It's really unorthodox filming technique, a few guys in my group said they actually almost got motion sickness, and we stayed the 15 minutes after the credits to hear a little bit of audio we heard would play at the end... and then someone was talking!

Anyway... the Trek XI teaser was a bunch of sound bites about early space travel, sort of like the Enterprise trailer actually... and it would pan over people doing construction work on some huge project... the shitty thing is, at first I wasn't paying attention, because I just thought it was some new sci fi film and I was only half paying attention. Suddenly I realized that the thing it was working on, it was very close-in so you couldn't tell, but eventually it became apparent that it was the Enterprise 1701. And then Spock's voice over came, "Space... The Final Frontier."

That was pretty much it, but WOW.

Yeah, that's where that pic Quills posted comes from.

Yeah, that's the teaser I saw. Looked frakkin AWESOME on the big screen :D . It's amazing how different it makes the Enterprise 1701 look... sort of the way they changed the Enterprise to look when going from TNG to Enterprise... like making it look so much more tactile and real and fallible, mechanical... Yet to a whole other level. It looks like the spacecraft of the size and scale and awe that it really would be.

I can't say I much care for it. To me they should've stayed true to the design and just detailed the hell out of it. INstead they've chosen to redesign it.

All I have seen so far is the too-dark bootleg youtube copy of the trailer, but I agree with you, Elessar--I thought the design of the trailer (and Enterprise) looks terrific. I like the way the trailer connects our past and present with Roddenberry's envisioned future. I loved the voiceovers of JFK, NASA, and Spock. I'm looking forward to seeing the trailer in a theater.

I found a couple of articles about the trailer and its creation at TrekMovie.com. This might be old news to some of you who have been frequenting STXI threads, which I've been staying out of.

Thanks Cofeecat for posting the link. I saw the trailer on Youtube several times, I just wish the picture wasn't so dark I copied the Enterprise picture and saw the details you can't see from the video nice design.

Was it redesigned? You mean redesigned in a basic sense like saucer/nacelles/engineering section? It looked the same to me. Did you see it in theatres? It's very difficult to make out in that YouTube video. I'd save judgement unless you've seen it in the theatres. It was much much easier to make out than the YouTube video.

I mean redesigned in how it looks. The pic Quills posted that's also online everywhere you can see the differences are pretty extensive in the portion of the ship that can be seen. And we have it from the set designer that the sets are also going to be radically different, which makes me wonder considering that she thought the outside of the ship actually looked the same.
