CBS owned the website, and just like they said they weren't going to do when the split first took place, they decided to shut down the website.

Paramount runs the movie division and CBS the the TV division. And since CBS owns the domain startrek.com Paramount will - and have - put up it's own Star Trek XI website at http://www.paramount.com/startrek/

I suppose Paramount could acquire the startrek.com domain from CBS, but then they might just pull all the content from the site. But that might happen anyway. Who knows, since everyone who was working at st.com has been fired.

I don't much visit that site, but darn, that would one more resource gone if they close it down! They have articles that I still reference for writing stories.
