I BOUGHT A RIFLE TODAY!
It's nothing super special... I was pressured by like 5 people who know what they're doin not to buy like a .308 to learn on, hehe. It took every one of them to assuade my eagerness for a BIGGER bullet though
I went with a Savage Arms Mk. II bolt action .22LR .... From walmart
Man... 550 rounds for $11. 50 rounds of 45ACP are like $11!
I'll post some pictures when I get back to Rolla. I left my camera there.

Could be worse - a box of .303 rounds costs $15, and I think there's only 10 or 12 rounds per box, so that's over a dollar for one shot.

I love being the parent of an adult child.
My daughter is riding herd on her little brother this week. It has gotten to the point in recent years that she frequently (and spontaneously!) apologizes to her mother and I for her teenage years
Today she was telling her mom on IM about the woes of getting her hooligan sib dressed for a day trip to see the local sights. Of course, by being female she tried to insist that he, an eleven year old male, dress in such a manner as to resemble a civilized Human. Thus, she joined the oppressive older generation. Worse yet was the fact that his beloved older sister was the one who betrayed him in such a dastardly fashion.
She admitted to us that she finally understood why, back in the day when she and her mother used to have their little tiffs, I would so often leave the room snickering. "Oh the draaama!" as my wife says.
I adore vindication. Really I do. At my age I have so little. But at least this part of getting old and feeble is sweet indeed.

As an elder sister: Dress like a civilized human? Be glad if they're decently covered, then pretend you don't know them. Do not suggest a coat, whatever the temperature.

Yeah, sometimes they have to learn the hard way, as CX suggests. But the "I told you so's" are sweet indeed, even if they consist only of a brief smug grin. When adult children finally 'get it' that there was some logic to what Mom and Dad were harping on years back...life sometimes gives us elders vindication, sure!
Then there are the times adult children finally 'fess up' and tell you things they did back then that raise the hair on the back of your neck even now. And they laugh about it. It is off their chests now. That is when you say "wait until your own children do that to you".

If anyone is interested, well, Dylan is off to the national American Indian science fair competition (NAISEF). Glancing through last year's participants, these kids do some pretty sophisticated stuff. That makes me concerned that Dylan might feel outclassed even though he did a great job on his tendon glove invention. I don't have a list of this year's entries, though, so I don't know what competition he is facing. They do the judging on Friday and the awards are announced on Saturday at 9:00 - probably local Albuquergue time on the AISES site: http://aises.brownrice.com/Events/NAISEF.
This was posted before, but here is Dylan in front of his display at Indian Community School in Milwaukee. This is the display he will be using in Albuquerque. Oh, and the patent for the glove is almost ready to be filed. Oh, and Grandma (me) bought Dylan his very first suit and tie to wear at the competition. I hope he takes the tags off the sleeve cuff and has learned how to tie that tie! My daughter had to borrow my car to get him to the airport by 4:00 am this morning so he could meet the other ICS kids and chaperones who are going.
