That is SO fantastic Linda! Regardless of how Dylan does, it's wonderful that he's going on this adventure and is getting this experience. You'll keep us informed, right?!

*aghast*

Surely you wouldn't make the boy tie his own tie?! :faint:

I was 30 years old before I finally mastered that occult art. Tie it for him and leave it loose enough that he can put it over his head and then just snug it down.

Egad. Make an innocent young lad tie his own tie... What is this world coming to...

Uh, BnB, he's already on the plane, well, probably in Albuquerque already. That was a good tip - tie it loosely, but alas, I am too late! I just hope one of the chaperones knows how to tie it for him! But he was practicing and Heather (my daughter) said he wasn't too bad at it now.

Gosh, I thought that tying a tie was the official rite of passage into manhood, you know, like being able to go through the manual of arms with your lirpa...if you are a Vulcan...thirty is about right. Now for a Human...thirty...well, lets not go there at this time.

Someway, this is true. :D

About a two years ago, one of my boys was going out to a dance and came to me with his suit and asked me to tie his tie. I said, "I still don't know how." He made this exasperated sigh and said, "OK! I'll just have to google it!" I didn't think anymore about it, soon he was dressed. After dropping him off at the dance I went up stairs on the computer and sure enouph there on the screen was step-by-step pictoral instructions on how to tie a tie! What an amazing age we live in!

Isn't it interesting that young males come to their female elders to learn how to tie a tie and not to their male elders? :?

Yes, Dylan is at the American Indian Science and Engineering Society national science fair (NAISEF). Here is the link to the science fair: http://aises.brownrice.com/Events/NAISEF. Actually, two other students from his school and one adult chaperone are there with him. All three kids have displays to put up. According to the agenda on the site, he has to set up his display today and the judging is tomorrow. We don't know what category they put him in because there are several. I think it would be in the medical one, but since his tendon glove is an invention, maybe an engineering category?

We will be glued to the TV Saturday morning when they give out the awards. Somehow the AISES site has a live video of the awards ceremony. Don't ask me how that is done - homeTV hook up to the site - as I am going to my daughter's house to watch it. I don't have a big screen TV and that is what my daughter, son-in-law, and Dylan's three siblings will be watching it on.

At the American Indian Science and Engineering Society national science fair in Albuquerque this morning Dylan Holmes got second place in the eighth grade engineering: electrical and mechanical category. He also won two of the special prizes from commercial companies. One was the IBM Inovation prize which eight of the participants got - $250 and a certificate. Then there was a $30 prize but I did not get the company name because the feed for the live broadcast through the web site kept going down. Dylan will be home in Milwaukee tomorrow (Sunday) evening. We are just estatic here! But my daughter and I are going to the YMCA to workout now. We are too excited to sit still. :happyjump: :happyjump: :happyjump:
