Just finished reading "Medalon" by Jennifer Fallon, an Australian fantasy author. I'm mad now because I bought only the first book of the series on the bargain table at the book store and now I HAVE to find the others. Her world is so cool!

Better buy them all before you leave, or is she available here?

Make sure you don't move so far out there are no playmates for Aurelia. When we are driving somewhere, I am always pointing out these mansion/farm houses in the country with wrap around porches, and asking my kids, Wouldn't you love to live there?: I always forget the answer is NO!

Because my kids are city kids. Where are the other people? What would you DO! out here? is their next question.

Unfortunately, it's JzK who's downunder these days, not me. *pout*

I found 4 more in paperback at the bookstore. Guess I'll have to get the last one on Amazon, as well as her two other trilogies. This girl's a prolific writer. "Medalon" was written in 2004 and she's already got 12 books out!

"What to expect when you're expecting"

I find myself referring to it a lot as I freak out about every little thing I experience with this pregnancy.

Everything seems fine so far....I'm just a worry wart.

Off to the doctors today....the midwife can't see me until the 23rd. And I'm such a worrier I couldn't stand not knowing anymore if everything is ok.

I'd like to know if there's a single mother on this board who actually followed the "best chance diet" in that book. I know I didn't.

It's a good book but it can make you kind of paranoid. I got to hate it after awhile because we had a very hard time getting pregnant and I kept reading that first chapter over and over ("Early Signs of Pregnancy") -- for nothing.

Just don't let it freak you out. You really don't have to religiously follow every guideline in there to have a healthy baby.

I've seen that book but I've never read it. With the first baby I was just too busy, being in med school at the time. With the others... well... I'd done it once already and everything came out fine, so I didn't bother. There's a lot to be said for just living your life and going with the flow. 8) (And getting enough sleep...and not missing meals...and staying away from booze and cigarettes... )

As I recall that book, "What to Expect When You're Expecting", was never very far away when I was pregnant. Lots of information there. Good luck to you. :)

"What to Expect" is a GREAT book. :D Yes, give them a best chance diet! (Whatever that is--I don't remember exactly.) What wouldn't one do to get their kid a few extra IQ points and a strong healthy body?

Eggs! Vitamins (sprayed on your cereal)! Milk! And anything you crave, except of course cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine (that last one was the hardest). I cheated a little there, towards the end.

Here is a tip for all nonpregnant young women: the MOST IMPORTANT vitamin for pregnancy is folic acid. And you need it at the very beginning of a pregnancy before you even realize you are pregnant. EVERY potentially fertile woman should be getting plenty of folic acid (they do spray it on a lot of cereals.)

What I'm reading: "World Without End" by Ken Follet

A friend INSISTED I read this and he's right. My mom has this book too. She always finds the good books.

A novel set in fifteenth century? England. It's about the common people at that time in a small town, Kingsbridge. There are monks and knights and wool salesmen. The characters are wonderful, believable. The author paints a very vivid picture in language that is simple, matter of fact, and straightforward (a writing style I appreciate). The story is plot driven--you want to know what happens next. For me, this book has exactly the right level of smut sprinkled in--rated PG-13, maybe R in places.

He describes an alien world, but none of it sounds archaic.

Sounds like just my cuppa. I'll have to go find it once I'm done with Jennifer Fallon's stuff.
