That's city hall? It's gorgeous, and looks like a mansion! Was it built in the 1700s or 1800s, by chance?

Well, it's so big because it was a casino before a city hall :D

And if I'm not mistakened it was inaugurated in 1887. I know it has to be after 1813, because that's the year the city was bombed by the English army.

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

There're over 2900 volcanoes in Chile. And we've had two erupting ones in the last six months. The picture is from Chaitén Volcano, that has been erupting since last weekend. Fortunately, the evacuation of the local population ended this morning. It's located about 1200 Km south from Santiago, and that area is quite unpopulated.

They fear that the cloud of expelled material could collapse recreating the effect that the Vesubius had on Pompeii.

The last eruption from the Chaitén Volcano was approximately 9000 years ago, according to the geologist that had studied that area.

Nature makes you think sometimes...

We have 15% of all the Volcanoes on Earth, but only 80 of the 2900 register activities.

It's not like we're having volcanoes erupting every day, any way. But if you come here you'll probably see one even without knowing it. :)

Actually, we're not aware that many of the mountains surrounding us are/were volcanoes.

I always wonder about giant cities built on volcanoes, like Mexico City, but I guess it's kind of like living on an earthquake fault in California or in tornado alley or in the path of hurricanes or cyclones or tidal waves or overflowing rivers or giant sink holes or forest fires or whatever. I guess you get used to it. It's probably no worse in terms of your statistical probability of dying than driving on the highway everyday.

I agree with you. But anyway, the volcano thing is scary. The ashes reached Buenos Aires today.
For the people that lived close by, must be awful. The geologist say that the ecological damage could take up to ten years to heal.

That must be scary. And when the evacuated residents get back, they're going to have an awful lot of dusting to do...
