Since I've been watching a lot of Buffy lately I decided to change my avatar.

You know, I kinda, almost "shipped" for Xander and Cordelia back in the day. It never had the chance to "stick" the way Trip and T'Pol did because it was over so fast. I saw Buffy here for the first time when they aired one episode a day and that meant the seasons finished in just a few weeks, and thusly, so did Xander/Cordelia. So just when I thought "hey, those two have a cute thing going on..." it was all over.

Also, I just uploaded a few clean images to vulcanspace because I've been learning some more GIMP techniques. The full version of ^that will be uploaded to the adult group some time other than tonight because I'm ready to hit the sack.

Do you need to get a GIF animator program to animate your avatar? How do you guys do it? I tried using Windows movie maker or whatever it is that came free on my computer, but that insisted on making a video (an extremely crappy 5-second low-res video).

Can you recommend some cheap free program for this?

Well, I make animated icons with "Adobe ImageReady" so I'm not really an expert in different softwares.

You could use "VidGIF" (to pass automatically AVIs to GIFs), but it isn't free (although there is a test version.) I don't know if you could do it with GIMP (in the sense of using Windows Movie Maker to take pics of all the frames you need and then put one after the other manually; I don't know if GIMP allows it.)

With "Adobe Image Ready" I could do things like those:

Does this mean you have Photoshop? ImageReady is part of that, right? Or do you have it in Photoshop Elements? There's a big difference in price but I don't see any mention of ImageReady in the Photoshop Elements marketing copy.

Can one run GIMP on a Windows Vista system, or do you have to be on Linux?

GIMP will run on just about anything (dunno about Mac tho) and I know you can do animated gifs with it as I have done them before. I just cant remember how.
