Thanks! No, there was no gull-eating going on.

As to worrisome, Asso - I think you've hit the nail on the head. This was a harsh place of secondary punishment for male convicts. It was absolutely brutal. Which is a contrast to how it is now, all peaceful with lots of birds and so photogenic.

What I Did on MY Summer Vacation/aka Something Typical in Coastal New England:

Our yearly spot to visit friends and enjoy the breathtaking scenery -- Owl's Head, Maine

I love Maine. Cool temperatures, beautiful scenery, great friends, cheap L.L. Bean returns at the local Goodwill, a great art museum in Rockland, lots of yummy galleries, and hardshell lobster just $6.80 a pound at the dock. Sigh. And this year the traffic wasn't even bad.

What are those things hanging off the street sign? Those look like buoys.

Lobster buoys. Each lobsterman has his own colors -- that's how they keep track of whose trap is whose. And woebetide a Rockland lobsterman who tries to set his traps down in Owl's Head territory or Vinyl Haven's territory, or vice versa. Cutting traps can escalate to shootings, boat burnings...it's a pretty tough business.

Oh, gosh, you are making me homesick for Maine, Alelou! Your photos looks so familiar, even if it isn't Lubec, like in the story I posted a few months back.

I guess I should post photos of how the family spent the 4th - fishing and watching fireworks from the boat! I might do a blog post about it too on Vulcan Space, hmmm.

Euww! How do I put this thing ON the hook? Image's first adventure in fishing.


Skyelar knows, she is an expert fisherwoman at age three and a half, even if there is no real hook on her rod. Shayla supervises and eats chips.


Euww! How do I get this thing OFF the hook?


Dylan rides on the side of the boat on its way to a vantage point for the fireworks. His Mom tells him not to show off and get back INSIDE the boat.


Dylan tries to spook Image while she is driving the boat.


Image activates the boat's internal com system that can be heard anywhere on the boat so she can yell at Dylan. I wonder where he is?


My Turn! Skyelar at the helm. We won't spoil her fun by telling her we are at our fireworks viewing spot and are "finished with engines" and Dylan has already set the anchor.

Alelou, I thought you were Linda at first with the pictures of Maine. She told us all about it. I felt like I've been there, I mean recently. It looks like fun vacation.
