Well, if that's the kind of Romulans you want to see, then you're going to be greatly disappointed with the rest of my fics. The Romulans that you describe don't match the ones that I saw on the show (like that Romulan commander in Balance of Terror, for example). I don't want to write about cliched villains who are bad because the Heroes need someone to be bad. That's boring.

And yet, as has been pointed out (by CX, I believe, although it might have been KTR) in TNG, they hinted at that very thing with the "Debrune".

Yeah ... that was an error, and is why I snatched it off the server when I realized I'd tipped my hand slightly.

Yeah. But I was under the impression that These rushed into a Military role, exploration vessels thuse far were keepin atleast on even ground thuse far with their Rommie counter parts.

Then you were under the wrong impression. In every single engagement thus far with the exception of Elysium, Earth has lost. The Thor's Cradle engagement was an aberration because it was old, antique birds of prey against a state-of-the-art ship designed with the impending conflict in mind.

Pluss the Fact you had Trip refer to the Warbird's as the "Rommie's version of an NX/Enterprise class" kinda led me into that belief as well.

He was speaking metaphorically.

But knowin you, I guess you decided to throw that out the window, an are imagining that the Rommie ships have hiddin weapon ports comin out of the ying yang aimed in every direction, or close to it.

I'm not sure if that was an insult or a compliment.

Did the Rommie BOPs, an yer Warbirds have sheilds?

Yes.
My Memory is fuzzy, but I think that the Drone only had hull plating simaler to the NX-01 had.

Correct.

Tsk Tsk If you say Archer! Im gona revoke yer membership in the Archer haters/disslikers club. Laughing

Revoke away, buddy.

JadziaKathryn wrote:And too, going with Rigil's theory of milder pon farr, suppose Joe Romulan needed a woman and all the women on board the ship he left Vulcan on were already married. So he finds himself a nice woman somewhere and she decides to go with him. (Clearly there are some willing to do this, a la Archer's wife in "E2.") There needn't be many in the beginning to establish bumpy foreheads as a dominant trait - "Lineage" (VOY) mentioned Klingon ridges being present for several generations.

Exactly. It's also not out of the question for the early Romulans, who have cut themselves off from what Surak has taught, actually take female prisoners for this very purpose.

Hey, Rigil, are you ever going to get back to telling us what Soval is up to?

Not in this fic. There wasn't room for it. He'll be making a reappearance in Endeavour: Grendel.

Actually even Joe Romulan is pretty paranoid thanks to the presense of the Tal Shiar, like everywhere. Just watch TNG's Unification. Wink

Cool I ofcourse dont expect that from you. Never have, Just stating again, I like Villians to be pure villians. Im bland an simple, That way I dont feel one bit guilty if a fictional Pure villianess race gets their Empoire crushed by the good guys, so shoot me. Laughing

And yet, as has been pointed out (by CX, I believe, although it might have been KTR) in TNG, they hinted at that very thing with the "Debrune".

An TNG has shown us a group of Vulcanoids In a Copper? or Bronze age civilsation that also had bumpy foreheads. An we dont know how they got there. Just that they were dang close to Vulcans. Romulans close. For all we Know, Pre Surak Vulcan could of had started a Empire that had reached other planets to Colonize. Then Surak showed up, messed up the Romulan Empire Like Vulcan, an kicked out the Bumpy headed hold outs, an for got all about the lost Colonies. They obviously had to have some form of space flight before, an during the First Rommie Vulcan conflict. Other wise the Rommies Left Vulcan in Vulcan built Lunar moduels.

Then you were under the wrong impression. In every single engagement thus far with the exception of Elysium, Earth has lost. The Thor's Cradle engagement was an aberration because it was old, antique birds of prey against a state-of-the-art ship designed with the impending conflict in mind.

Every single engagment uptill this last fic, that you've told the tale of, had involved only one Starfleet vessel against a far superior sized force to. AM I wrong that Earth has been completely outnumbered in every single battle so far?

An while I havent gone back to reread the opening of the big battle, It seemed till the trap was sprung, that it seemed to be evenly matched. An I honestly thought it be common sence to send in ships in teams, Even if your ships have superior fire power. Small Ship Wolf packs/Task force working together can disspatch enemy ships far faster then alone single vessels. I was probably blinded by the effectivness of the Wolf pack tactics.

I'm not sure if that was an insult or a compliment.

Compliment. Your fixin misstakes. Id honestly rather have a Rommie BOP look like a WWII battle ship with weapons going off in every direction rather then have the only one stinkin weapon port on the front of the ship. Really what kinda of Idiot thinks a warrior Race, Empire would ever build a ship that cant cover its rear. Especialy a super paranoid race like the Rommies Confused I may not always agree with ya, but alteast you make the Romies ships a real threat, an fit their ways Cool

Im just not quick at change Especialy when the ships that were shown on TV were shown to be armed light, are now actualy armed more properly for a warship in your fics. I have an Image in my head of those BOPS, an their one weapon port, While NX's an Intrepids had multiple phase cannon ports, an two or more torpido tubes actualy shown on screen or on the Models.

Im a simple man, I do need things spelled out for me from time to time, repeatedly. Especialy if things are changed from what was shown on screen.

Confused Uhg Ive gota get to sleep Gnight.

what was going on between the klingons and romulans in the camp and the fear they had no place else to go was more out of fear of just how strong recent hatreds had been. the romulans turning on the klingons would have been seen as a major betryal . they had been allies for several years.
and that both sides would have seen the parents as failures in not upholding honor.

in the end didnt some of the half klingon/romulan children leave anyway...

i just dont see a hundred thousand vulcans leaving more then tops maybe ten thousand.

and tos itself without meaning two did set the stage that you could have the two types of romulans despite their orgin. about 90 percent of the romulans wear those helmets.

and i have to go back to the romulan commander in balance of terror as how complex they can be .
kirk and the romulan commander speak..
kirk says they are standing by to take survivors
commander..No. No, that is not our way. I regret that we meet in this way. You and I are of a kind. In a different reality, I could have called you friend.

jim..What purpose will it serve to die?
commander.. We are creatures of duty, Captain. I have lived my life by it. Just one more duty to perform.

actually one theory i have played with for years is that some of the smooth headed rommulans maybe snatched some dignity from defeat or saved romulus itself from going down before a combined
allied force.

this enabled them to rise to high ranks and it is why they are the ship commanders we see in tos.but with the failure of the mission in balance of terror and enterprise incident and who knows what else behind the scene they lost a lot of their power.
it is very easy to wonder if a major revolt happened after khitomer and this why the romulans were so quiet until neutral zone in tng.

Wasn't it the "Tomed Incident" that started their isolation?

Every single battle? No. Just every one of the battles I've written about. The battle of Pacifica Prime (which I referenced in Vigrid was basically an even battle (in number of forces on either side) and Starfleet got their ass handed to them until reinforcements arrived, and the Romulans retreated to regroup, which allowed the reinforcements to cover the surviving Starfleet ships as they made their escape.

An while I havent gone back to reread the opening of the big battle, It seemed till the trap was sprung, that it seemed to be evenly matched.

Not entirely. Starfleet had a significant numeric advantage and were still taking heavy damage. Most of the Romulan craft being destroyed were unmanned drones (that are not telepresence drones. I envision that the command ships - warbirds - have sections set aside for officers to control the drones ala modern UAVs.)

I was probably blinded by the effectivness of the Wolf pack tactics.

Heh. Probably.

He remains, in that single episode, my all time favorite Romulan ever.

I wonder to what degree the Andorians and Vulcan assisted Starfleet in this conflict. They had to have chipped in to help their ally at some point or other.

well.... at least Trip and T'Pol won't have to worry about Black causing a ruckess anymore.

You really do enjoy messing with us, doncha Rigil?

So... who is the chick? Orion is the obvious choice, but this is Rigil we're talkin' about. Rommulans aren't teeps, so it can't be a Rommulan chick mind-frakin' him (ala MU T'Pol). Humm......

Alright, so Eisler doesn't know Kung Fu -- does Hayes? Oo, what about Reynolds? Just another layer of interest for the Professor.

I just wanted to send you Kudos RK.

I've gotten halfway through your series so far......the first book about blew me away.

Are you going to bring Hoshi back into the picture any time soon?

I get the impression that she must feel lost without Malcom.....having a wee one to raise to boot....that must be hard on her.

Another good scene! Cool

I wonder about Harrad-Sar's demise. Who held him and wouldn't his sudden death/disappearance alert some people?
She's got an awfully nice bum!

krn wrote:You really do enjoy messing with us, doncha Rigil?

Yup. I'm a boring SOB, so that's how I get my jollies.

So... who is the chick?

Deanna Troi. See, she didn't do enough damage in the "finale," and since I ignored it, she's back trying to screw everything up.

Alright, so Eisler doesn't know Kung Fu -- does Hayes?

Nope. He relies on brute strength and speed.

Oo, what about Reynolds? Just another layer of interest for the Professor.

Afraid not. He knows the basic stuff they teach in boot camp, but isn't a hand-to-hand guy.

T'Sara wrote:I just wanted to send you Kudos RK.

Why, thank you kindly!

Are you going to bring Hoshi back into the picture any time soon?

Next fic, actually.

I get the impression that she must feel lost without Malcom.....having a wee one to raise to boot....that must be hard on her.

Well, she's got Malcolm's parents and Maddie, as well as her own mother to help. (Note, I didn't say her father, 'cause based on Vanishing Point, he seemed like kind of an ass.)

Kevin Thomas Riley wrote:I wonder about Harrad-Sar's demise. Who held him and wouldn't his sudden death/disappearance alert some people?

His apprehension was classified Top Secret, and Black played fast and loose with the rules. A very small group of people knew about his presence on Earth, and that group is gradually dwindling.

Now I've gotta cast CDRE Casey, don't I? Maybe Dale Dye, circa Band of Brothers...
