Just to clarify, I'm not objecting to his promotion or his posting. It's the motivation (valor). I have no problem with him getting promoted due to shortage of personel and the fact that he has shown himself being of command material (I consider this something different from valor).

No But it is the Top of the Line "Explorer" vessel of its time. Their's no way a Freshly promoted LT. Comander would ever get an NX class. But a Miss/Matched Cobled together Butt ugly POS like the D-class, Sure why not. Thing looks like it was designed to be Cannon Fodder anyway.

Yeah their were US Navy Subs in WWII that were Commanded by Lt.Commanders. Heck I think they even would but Lt. in Command of Subs from time to time. I think it was only for testing experamental subs, an their equipment though?

Oh an I know you'll probably Promote T'Pol to Capn, an give her own ship. An Somethin bad will happen to bring her back to Endeavour. But, But just perhaps this could be a chance to repair her character a bit? I know you have her second guessing herself when ever she's in Command, But just perhaps something good could happen with a ship an Crew Under her Command. Not saying she should for get what her misstakes caused/or could of caused at Azati prime. But maybe a Chance for her to move forward, an make some progress in this department of her character. Just a thought. Unless you want to keep havin her be jittery to the point she's on the verge of being unable to command at all.

I wasn't aware that my version of the character needed repair. Yes, she's uncomfortable while in command and has no desire to be in command ... but that doesn't mean she's incapable of doing it. Don't forget that Trip needs her as much (and probably more) than she needs him since he never fully recovered from Similitude.

As to the question about whether she'll be promoted off of the boat, I quote a very wise green guy. "Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future."

Ah, but now Archer is the Vice Chief of Naval Operations. (envisions Mitchell's brain melting down) He's basically the second-in-command at Starfleet Command (having been sort of promoted past a couple of flag officers who, surprisingly, have made absolutely no complaint about it...)

Maybe they've looked at the way events have been unfolding recently and decided they don't want to be the ones holding the bag if it all disintegrates.

For the record, I understood your meaning perfectly with Hsaio's promotion. He's proven himself to be a capable commander, and Starfleet has very few of those. If I were on a battleship - less likely than an iceberg in the Saraha, but nevermind that - I'd rather have my CO be a capable, proven Lt. Cmdr. than a full Cmdr. who is less of a talented leader and straight from a desk job or something.

i was thinking of that plus there were decorated sub commanders who indeed started out as lt commanders in wwII

battlefield promotions exist in war time due to both losing massive amounts of officers but also because conflict may reveal a person who steps forward due to the need of the moment who other wise wouldnt be aggressive in pursuing a promotion.
