They're making another season though, YES. I thought it'd be a one-shot deal. I'm pretty excited to see it. I love it.

I don't usually consider myself "into" vampire stuff, but I really loved "Interview with a Vampire" AND I love True Blood. Maybe I'm a fanger, IDK

DOING: Just filled out an app for Best Buy - Geek Squad. Oh yah. 8)

Need to Do: Study for GRE

Doing Tomorrow: Calling MIT :D (it's a long shot)

I'm also applying to UT-Austin, Purdue, and University of Illinois-Urbana/Champagne

Too late. I'd seen the last four or five so I HAD TO WATCH THE FINALE. Poor Bill!

Don't you think Sukie's brother looks a little like Connor T's younger, stupider brother?

Don't overwhelm the poor folks at Best Buy with talk like you and T'PopTarts just had. My eyes glazed right over.

If you're going after math, you might want to look at Stanford, UGeorgia/Athens and McGill in Canada. (Which is only to say my friend's brilliant math wiz son has worked/studied at those places. I think UG is tenure-track for him now.)

I've thought from the beginning that Jason Stackhouse looks like a perfect match to play a younger Trip. Trip's brother would work too. But Trip himself is what I thought of.

I'm actually looking at aeronautical/astronautical engineering at University of Texas - Austin, University of Illinois - Urbana/Champaign, and Purdue. I was looking at MIT but their deadline's too early, I can't make it.

Purdue's got like the #5 program in the country and U of Ill. has #7. I don't think UT is ranked but I worked with their program at UMR through a collaborative white paper on a satellite propulsion system so 1. they might remember me and 2. I know from that experience that they have a huge program and tons of money in it. Plus my best friend works at Kennedy Space Center in Houston so I'd be close and I know that UT sends tons of people to work there.

Kevin Thomas Riley wrote:

Fanger? Never heard that before. That's a term for fans of vampire stuff, right? Or just specific vampire stuff?

Well, I liked Buffy and Angel, so maybe I'm a "fanger"...

But I haven't seen True Blood - or even heard of it until this thread.

It's good dude. Download it. :)

I friggin love the theme song, btw.

Oh speaking of good TV music. Does anybody else watch Life? I keep telling myself I want to go and find where I can DL the soundtracks. It has THE COOLEST music in it. usually it's in the beginning leading up to them finding a body that leads into the main plot, but it's kind of throughout. They had a great song on the last episdoe called "My Little Toy Gun",.

Where do you download this stuff?

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking Trip when I see that guy. I find it really annoying how dumb he is because doesn't he know Trip is supposed to be cute AND smart????

I also wonder if it's a coincidence Junie Lowry-whatsername also cast this show. That's probably how Billingsley got on it.

I also didn't realize TB is based on a series of books by Charlaine Harris. I just ordered the first one through the library. Turns out there are enough to hold me over for next summer and spoil me for the rest of the show too, probably.

TP something is royally F'd with my torrent situation.

I dl'd .86 (not your link - I had found it was reading that post of yours) of BitComet and I'm using it right. Well, from the start it was slow in getting a torrent started from the "<>" deal to the ">>" deal to the "^" finally (know what I mean? the arrows indicating status of the DL).

Then, see just b/c it seems to always work the best, I've gotten into the habit of using Mininova. What I mean by 'using mininova' is I actually search with Torrentz.com, then choose the Mininova link. It's always worked peachy.

Well yesterday and today - basically since I installed BitComet - Mininova has also been having major issues. Their site just locked up a bunch of times on me and then finally it loaded up but it said they were having server issues. I'm like ok, I'll go with another site. So I tried like 3 or 4 other of the torrent sites that Torrentz brought up, like btjunkie.com, monova, a few others. Every one when I start the download, Bitcomet would start hogging resources (like using 300-400 Mg ram) and either sit forever at "<<" or go to "^" and sit at 0 kbps like forever. For a small period of time, I got a few downloads to go really fast and act totally normal.

All night last night, however, and ALL day today, I've had this happen - every time I start a torrent download, my internet goes completely down. Every site I'm trying to go to blitzes into an error message from my router about not being able to resolve my IP, my chat clients go down and the BC downloads go to <<.

Then today, I went to use Mininova again thinking it should be fixed and it still doesn't work - although strangely the error page I get is the Mininova Twitter page telling me that 15 hrs ago they posted a note saying "Hey guys we got it all fixed!". Now, it gives me some MySQL error on their page. A few other people I know use Mininova and it works fine for them. So pretty much ON COMMAND today, I start a torrent - my internet goes down. It's really friggin weird and it's pissing me off. What I will probably do when my laptop power cord gets here is the ultimate test - go back to using my good ole NORMAL BitComet (b/c like I said, this .86 still has some goofy shit in it I didn't have, I can't explain it) and see if I have problems.

This setup may sound weird to begin with - downloading only on my laptop - and that's because on a previous windows install on this computer, I had issues using ANY torrent client before. I don't even remember what those issues were. If I recall correctly, I was using BC for a long while on here, working fine, I tried switching to Azureus, everything went haywire, so I uninstalled it, reinstalled BC, and it never worked again. But like I said, that was actually on a previous Windows install.

So, yeah. Any torrent users out there got ANY clues whatsoever about WTF is going on w/ my system?

Gah Mininova has been down for like a week. :? :explode: I usually just go on Mininova but now I have to go on the Torrentz search engine :? and thank Surak at least EZTV have their own site with links to all the mirrors.

I don't know what's up with your system :? :dunno: like I said when I first started with BitComet it worked great, I had a good (uh I guess "decent" by normal people's terms) download rate and it could handle like 2, 3 downloads at a time just fine. Then it decided to start fritzing on me and try to connect ALL the peers on the frelling internet at the same time so they'd all be "connecting" all the time but would never actually connect, so I had to set maximum half open connections to like 8 because my BitComet apparently lost its common sense. So then I was able to get peers. But it stopped being able to run more than 1 download at the same time. Well I mean like it could run them, but then no download would get any peers and not only that, they wouldn't even have like "connecting" peers, just a big fat static nothing >> all the time. :? I never had any troubles with BitComet blocking the internet though, not on the wi-fi and not with the cable :dunno:

Oh and BitComet also has a serious problem with first/last pieces when one of the files the piece belongs to is like banned. Like when I first installed BitComet to download BSG and had to prioritize files due to lack of disk space, and it just couldn't complete downloading it because of that it kept downloading and downloading like an extra GB of the same data and dumping it. Hell the file itself wasn't nearly that big. So then I had to burn some stuff on CDs to make space and just downloaded the whole season with BitTorrent. :? Azureus doesn't have this first/last piece problem it downloads it even if half of it is in a banned file. And also BitComet has another annoying thing if you start downloading with a different client and continue in BitComet then during the hash check it dumps the first and last piece of every file. Which isn't nearly as bad as Azureus dumping my 4 frelling GB but still. Grrrrr

So then I installed Azureus which aside from being a big-ass heavy program and hogging all the resources and slowing everything WAY down (and dumping 4GB of precious data  :censored: :bitch: :explode: ) didn't cause any actual trouble :dunno: I gotta admit though that Azureus does a way better job at grabbing peers and keeping them. And I get a better download rate with it. I just don't like using it because it's big and fat and slow and has so many unnecessary features, I mean like I didn't ask for a frelling entertainment center, all I want is a nice little download client that does its job.

That's why I like BitTorrent because it's small and doesn't hog the resources. At least the older version I have, I don't know what it's like now. Elessar I say if whatever you're trying to download is like recent torrents or stuff that has lots of peers, like a TV episode or a movie etc and you don't have to prioritize specific files just go with BitTorrent. It hasn't failed me yet. It runs multiples and gets a decent download rate like Azureus. For me anyway. I haven't tried it on the wi-fi but I have no reason to believe it wouldn't work since BitComet and Azureus both work.

P.S. when you get your power cord can you upload that nicer quieter older BitComet? It sounds better than mine :)

I got rid of the old BT a long time ago b/c it was INCREDIBLY slow. Like download speeds were incredibly slow. But maybe it's gotten better, this was a long time ago. The one thing it had going for it was it was a very lean client. A little too lean, actually. I had a feeling it lacked the gut internals to get the job done very well, so I figured that's why it wasn't very fast. I got way better speeds when I switched to BC but that could be anything.

I'll try EZTV. I've seen that tag in a lot of different things, is it a torrent group?

EDIT: I did what you said, limited half-open connections to 8. I also googled my problem and found a few people with the same problem (quite telling that they BOTH have 2Wire modems, as I do) and the commonly accepted hypothesis was that these modems' throttling sucks and the buffer gets overflowed and can't dump if you have too many connections at once.

Remember that performance boost I recommended to you? Upping the connections allowed?, yeah, that may be it. I had like 200 connections per task and 1000 connections global allowed. I did this from my laptop though, and in Rolla, and never had a problem. Though in Rolla we had a different router. Probably a better one.

So far it's working. I cut connections per task from 400 to 150 and my internet still went down when I started a torrent but it came right back up (not usually the case). I then cut it again to 75 and things were going peachy until... well JUST now. AIM just went down again and this post may or may not actually get out there.

Yeah EZTV is the group that releases all the TV shows they're reliable and they have a public tracker (though on Azureus private trackers aren't a problem it downloads those too... that's another downside with BitTorrent it doesn't download private trackers), either that or VTV they basically have the same releases just that VTV's pieces are a different size. EZTV releases have more peers though. And sometimes EZTV releases VTV torrents on their site too. I'm probably not supposed to post their link here but it's in the comments on all their torrents anyway.

And BitTorrent works fine for me but then again I don't know what YOU define as "incredibly slow" LOL :p in general I get a download rate that's comparable to what I get with Azureus. Especially for fresh torrents like recent episodes or aXXo/FXG releases. Mostly over 50kb/s and sometimes up to like 150kb/s. I guess it depends on the connection, it's faster at the library but they have a faster connection. And my download rate rarely gets to the 3 digits anyway. The highest I ever got was on HAL on the wi-fi with the BitComet I got like 270kb/s. But that was very very rare and the wi-fi here sucks mivonks most of the time. On C2 with the cable I never got over 200kb/s with either client.

It's doing a lot better now. I limited connx per task to 30 and I'm getting a total DL rate of 324 KBPS / upload 22 kbps. A House ep is going at 230 kbps, spiking to 300, so I'm happy now :D

Okay creepy:

I just watched Relative Strangers. Anyone saw that one? Anyway Danny DeVito's character TOTALLY reminds me of my dad. :? I mean like not really the behavior etc, it's like how he carries himself, the mannerism, gestures, even the accent  like the whole movie I just kept thinking like OMG he's so totally like my dad! And really my dad doesn't even act like that. And he doesn't look like Danny DeVito either. And he's like way taller. (I'm not taller than Danny DeVito though :( )

Anyway that was creepy. :? :faint:
